Choosing a pattern for sewing stool covers
If you are an experienced seamstress, then you most likely will not need a pattern for such a simple product. If you are a beginner and do not sew often, then in order not to spoil the fabric, use a pattern. To do this, you need to measure the dimensions of all sides of the seat and transfer them to a pre-prepared piece of paper or cardboard.
Don’t forget to add 3–6 cm of margin on the sides of the product, since padding polyester or foam rubber, or other filler will be placed inside, as well as for the design of seams.
Cut out the pattern, trace it along the outline using chalk or a piece of soap on the fabric. And then on the lining, as well as on the selected filler, but without any reserve for the sides. Now you can start sewing the product.
How to sew a seat on a stool with your own hands? There are other options for making fabric covers for stools; they differ mainly in the way they are attached to the seat.You may prefer a product with elastic bands at the corners rather than along the entire perimeter. In addition to elastic bands, you can sew ribbons onto the corners, which will be tied in the form of bows around the legs of the stool.

What materials and tools will be required

It can be taken from household supplies, in this case you will not have to spend additional money, and you can assume that removable covers for stools will cost you almost free.
But if it is important for you that the soft seats fit harmoniously into the interior of the kitchen, then it is better to purchase new fabric of the desired color and texture. To maintain harmony, the color scheme of the covers for the stools should be combined with the color of the curtains and tablecloths in the kitchen. White and beige shades look good, but they are not the best option for the kitchen; such covers will get dirty very quickly. Therefore, it is better to choose darker tones or multi-colored ones.
How to sew a cover for a stool with an elastic band? You will also need fabric for the reverse side, that is, the lining. It is better to take soft textiles so that they completely cover the seat. The size of the fabric required for sewing seats is calculated as follows: the surface area of the stool, increased by 10 cm. It is convenient to mark the fabric with chalk or a small piece of soap.
In addition to fabric, you need to purchase textile elastic 2–3 cm wide and soft filling for the seats.As a filler, you can use either foam rubber with a thickness of about 4 cm. Instead of foam rubber, for example, padding polyester, felt, wool fabric and even unnecessary scraps of fabric may be suitable.
You also need strong threads of the same color as the covers being made, and pins.
Step-by-step manufacturing instructions
Having cut out the necessary parts from the fabric, lining and filling, we proceed to sewing the product. The case manufacturing process consists of the following steps:
- We combine padding polyester (or other material chosen for the filler) and lining fabric and sew along the perimeter.
- It is necessary to leave a groove along the perimeter of the upper part of the cover by tucking the fabric and sewing a hem. Next, you should tuck and sew the lapel section.
- Attach the previously stitched lower part with the filling to the upper part and sew them to each other around the perimeter, using a hidden seam for this.
- Then, using a pin, pull the elastic inside the hemmed lapel; the ends of the elastic must be sewn. The hole should also be sewn shut.
After this, you can try on the resulting product on a stool; if it sits loosely, you can lightly sew it in the corners from the inside.
How to decorate covers
Decorative elements, lace, ribbons, etc. will help make seat covers brighter and more individual. If the fabric chosen for upholstery is plain, then satin stitch embroidery will look very advantageous on it. Large flowers in the center, an ornament around the perimeter, or large abstract pictures look good. Just choose threads that are stronger and have a long-lasting color so that the embroidery does not deteriorate during use and washing of the covers.
