Fabric

If you know how to sew and have a sewing machine, making a chair cover will not be difficult for you. The main thing is to choose the right fabric and filling material.

Depending on your imagination, decorative details (buttons, ribbons, braid, etc.) can be used to make such a cover.

Before sewing, it is necessary to make a special pattern that follows the shape and dimensions of the chair seat. It is desirable that it be made of a fairly dense material, such as cardboard.

Next, using this blank, you should cut out two parts from fabric, and another from soft filler. When cutting out parts, you should set aside an additional 1–2 cm on each side for seam allowances.

The fabric parts are folded face to face and sewn on three sides. Next, the product is turned inside out and a piece of filler is placed inside. After this, carefully sew up the fourth side of the cover. If desired, you can sew bias tape on all sides of the cover.

The next step is to create ties and attach decorative elements.

Knitted

The cover does not need to be sewn. A soft chair cushion can be tied. Moreover, the needlewoman herself will choose the knitting method: knitting or crocheting.

Filler

The use of soft filling in the manufacture of a chair cover is intended to make the product soft and comfortable.

Most often, foam rubber is used for this purpose.. It is a cheap and accessible material that copes with this task perfectly.

Batting, which is brushed cotton, is also a popular material made from natural raw materials.

In addition, many people use padding polyester.

More expensive materials include seaweed.

How to attach to a chair

how to attach
The simplest and most unpretentious option for attaching a seat to a chair is strings.

They can be made from the same fabric that was used to sew the cover itself. If the product is decorated with ribbons or bias tape, ties can be made from them.

Advice. For chairs without a back or stools, a cover with an elastic band sewn around the perimeter for fixation is suitable.

To attach the seat to a stool, it is also convenient to use elastic bands sewn into the corners of the product.

Another option is use of Velcro.

How to sew a quilted seat

Quilted chair cushions are not only soft and comfortable, but also durable. After all stitch prevents the soft filler from bunching and deforming. In addition, such products look very original and aesthetically pleasing.

Before sewing a quilted seat, you should decide what size and shape it will be. After this, we make a blank from cardboard for cutting out the parts of the future seat.

  • Using the resulting blank, we cut out two fabric parts. And one more, made of soft filler.
  • We put all the parts together so that the filling is inside, and the fabric parts are facing out. We secure everything with needles.
  • On the surface of the workpiece we apply markings for future stitching. We sew the product on a sewing machine according to the applied markings.
  • Next, you should trim the edges with bias tape, at the same time providing ties for the pillow.
