Bar stool dimensions
Bar furniture has long ceased to be associated only with entertainment venues. It is functional and saves space, so it is often used in small kitchens and studio apartments. Large rooms are divided into several zones using a bar counter, making the space cozy and practical.
To make it comfortable to sit at the counter, you need chairs of a special design, which differ from ordinary ones not only in height, but also in the size of the seat.

Standard bar stool sizes
There are three product height standards:
- The height from the floor to the seat is 75 cm. This model is the most popular and is ideal for stands from 105 to 115 cm.
- The second standard size is 85 cm. Similar products are used where the bar counter has a height of 130 cm, most often these are bars, cafes, and restaurants.
- The third standard size is 65 cm. These models are considered semi-bar models and are used in entertainment establishments.
To designate the standards, the height of the average person and an assessment of the sitting posture were taken into account. At the same time, the optimal ratio of the height of the counter and the bar stool was taken into account.
The ideal option is products in which the seat height is adjustable.
The standards apply only to the height of the seat from the floor; the backrest is selected based on individual preferences.
The depth of the model is 400 mm if the seat is square, and d=320 mm if it is round.
When dividing zones, preference should be given to taller models.
If you plan to push chairs under the table to increase space, you should choose products without a backrest.
What is the height of a half bar stool?
The height of a half-bar stool varies from 60 to 70 cm. It is determined quite simply. The model should be slightly higher than the middle of the bar counter.
With a product height of 630 mm, the stand will be no lower than 900–950 mm.
The width of such models is 400-500 mm. If there are going to be a lot of seats at the table, then choose a smaller width.
These examples are especially impressive in studios, when the kitchen is combined with the living room. They are not only very convenient to use, but also create a stylish completeness in the interior.
GOST requirements for a bar stool
Despite the fact that the range of bar furniture today is very large, and many companies make it according to individual orders, manufacturers still try to adhere to existing standards.
A bar stool with a height of 950 mm or BarHocker is marked with the letter Bh, and with a height of 850 mm it is marked as Th (TresenHocker). These models are used for racks of 130 and 110 cm, respectively.
The distance from the floor to the top of the backrest is usually 110-120 cm.
To ensure maximum comfort, the difference between the height of the tabletop and the stool should be at least 30 cm.
How to choose the right size product
There are three main types of bar stools:
- Half-chair. The most advantageous and expensive option, which provides a backrest and armrests. You can sit on it for a long time without feeling discomfort.
- With a backrest. The model is quite comfortable, but still less convenient.
- Chair-stool.It does not have a backrest or armrests, so the back, without receiving support, will take the wrong position and get tired quickly.
The main parameter that must be taken into account when purchasing a bar product is its height. Therefore, it is so important to know this value at the rack under which this item is selected.
In addition, you should pay attention to convenience. The back should follow the line of the seated back. Make sure the footrest is at a comfortable distance.
Supporting elements are also important. The model with four legs is more stable.
When choosing bar furniture, do not forget about design. It should match the style of the room and harmoniously combine with the design of other items.
You need to decide in advance about the purpose of the product. This will guarantee the right choice.
