How to choose a high chair

Chair for babiesYour baby has grown up, become mobile, rolls over easily and tries to sit. He sleeps less and no longer likes staying in his crib for long periods of time. Its boring there. And now neither mom nor dad can calmly drink tea, wash the dishes or iron them. The time for introducing complementary foods is inexorably approaching. The solution to all these problems is to buy a high chair. The article will tell you the secret of how easy it is to choose such an indispensable assistant, will help you navigate the diversity of the range of models and decide which one will be convenient for you.

REFERENCE! When choosing, it is important to know that a modern high chair is not only a device for a child to eat, but also a comfortable and safe place for quiet board games, moving around the apartment and even sleeping.

Design

All stationary seats, intended exclusively for home use, look like a regular chair, but are necessarily equipped with high legs, a backrest, armrests, a footrest, a removable table, a cover and, most importantly, seat belts.

standard chair sizeFurther differences follow, for example, in material (plastic, wood, metal), design, but most importantly in the set of additional options:

  • the presence of a mechanism that ensures the folding of the chair to a compact size;
  • backrest reclining in several positions;
  • possibility of height adjustment of the footrest;
  • is the device equipped with wheels and latches;
  • the presence/absence of several positions on the tabletop (farther/closer), recesses and holes for greater stability of the dishes, sides that limit the flow of spilled liquids onto the floor;
  • the cover is removed or not removed.

Classification by type

Not folding classic wooden ones. Growing chair.

types of high chairsThis category includes a high wooden chair, equipped with a non-reclining back, armrests, a height-adjustable chair and a footrest. The table top does not have any of the additional options, can be removable and contains a two-point fixing element, which is a belt between the child’s legs, built into the body of the seat and table top. The cover is usually missing.

IMPORTANT! This model can be used exclusively for feeding a child. The age at which the use of this type is indicated is no earlier than 6 months and no more than three years.

A variation of the above model can be considered the so-called growing chair. In general, it repeats the design of the classic look, with the only difference that it is not equipped with armrests and a table. Like a regular chair, but with leg support and lumbar support, up to the age of 10 it ensures the correct physiological position of the child at the table.

Folding, tall

high chair for feedingThis category includes products mainly made of plastic with the inclusion of metal (legs, for example). In addition to a full range of standard and additional functions, only this type of chair is equipped with a mechanism that allows the model to fold.The ability to fold and put away, if necessary, frees up space, compensating for the excessive bulk of models of this type. But even some cumbersomeness of individual representatives is justified, as it arises due to additional capabilities.

The chair transforms into a chaise lounge, which allows you not to disturb the child if he falls asleep at the table, and most importantly, you can use it almost from birth, without waiting until the baby is able to sit. But that's not all. Toddlers can be rocked to sleep in this chair, and for older children this feature works like a swing.

It is this type that usually becomes the owner of a bright, cheerful design and additional pockets and mesh baskets for many necessary little things, built-in play panels and hanging toys.

NOTE! This model is used from 4 months (if there is a chaise longue) and up to 3 years inclusive.

Transformers

They are a table turned on its side and a chair attached on top. Most often they are made of wood, less often of heavy-duty plastic, and extremely rarely of metal. They have a full set of standard equipment. Only the tabletop is equipped with additional capabilities. The cover in wooden models is replaced by a soft chair covered with waterproof fabric (oilcloth, leatherette), backrests and armrests; in plastic ones it may be completely absent.

what does a travel high chair look like?The main ability to fold out onto a table and chair, which allows you to extend the service life up to 5 years. Recommended for use from 6 months.

Mobile. Mounted, booster chair, travel.

ATTENTION! the name of this species speaks for itself. These seats have a very special design.

Intended for use outside the home, they provide minimal comfort and safety for the child on the road, at a party, or in nature. At the same time, they are small in volume, light in weight, and partially foldable.

Mounted The model is an iron frame with clamps, onto which a fabric-foam rubber seat box is attached. Using it at home is possible and even seriously saves space, but it requires attachment to a durable tabletop and is completely unsuitable for active babies and children on average from 9 months and older than 1.5 - 2 years.

Booster chair resembles a folding camp chair with metal legs and a fabric seat, but for children and with a small table. Attaches to a regular chair and folds up. There are plastic models in the form of a children's potty. Valid from 6 months to 2-3 years (depending on weight).

Road the look looks like a kangaroo pouch with three-point straps to the chair. Can be made of tough fabric. May have a plastic insert simulating a tabletop. Age for use from 6 months to 3 years.

for the little onesChoosing a highchair is easy if you think about it and honestly answer a few questions:

  1. the age at which you plan to use the chair (whether the child sits confidently or not);
  2. what will it be used for (meals only, games only)
  3. where and how it will be stored (how much space can be allocated in the kitchen, in the room);
  4. Are wheels required or is it easier to move it yourself without damaging yourself and the floor covering;
  5. It’s more convenient to wipe the entire device or wash the cover.

After this, no online store is scary, and choosing a truly comfortable and safe high chair will not be difficult.
