Office work requires long periods of sitting. However, if you sit uncomfortable, then your work will not be productive. Moreover, sitting in an uncomfortable chair for a long time is even contraindicated. A modern office chair is a rather complex device that consists of many parts. This entire structure is aimed at ensuring that the work is productive and the employee’s health is maintained at the proper level.

What does the chair consist of?

As already mentioned, this is a whole set of individual elements. In addition to the back and seat itself, which form the basis, this set includes armrests, without which it is impossible to imagine the chair. And besides: a cross on which the rollers are installed. A gas lift is attached to the cross - a device thanks to which the height is adjusted. Some models are also presented with a special headrest, as well as a cushion under the lower back.

Frame

Based on their structure, two types can be distinguished:

• The monolithic frame combines both the back and its seat. This design makes it more reliable and durable. A similar design can be used without armrests, if the armrests are supposed to be removable.
• Non-monolithic frame - is a structure where the seat and back are connected either by armrests, or using a metal plate or other functional element.

Back and seat

The back can be absolutely any height. Both high and low. It can have any shape, both rectangular and with rounded edges. The most important thing is that the angle between the back and the seat is slightly more than ninety degrees. At this angle, the excess load on human organs is reduced, the body weight is distributed over the entire surface of the chair. In addition, this angle allows the employee not to slouch while working.

A seated person should be able to lean back at any time. Some types of chairs intended for offices have a special mechanism that synchronizes the operation of the backrest and seat. Thus, they simultaneously change their angle of inclination. The angle of view of the person sitting does not change when the tilt changes; the legs also remain in the same place.

It is considered good practice for a chair that the normal position of a person’s back while working should look like the Latin letter “S”. Those. the device is designed to have an anatomical structure. After all, the appearance of this letter corresponds to the correct position of the spine. The backrest is not only designed to support a person’s back, it must also correctly distribute the person’s weight and load. Some models have the ability to adjust the backrest.

2. The seat should be such that the person sitting in it can easily take advantage of all the benefits of the backrest.

One of the important parts of any chair in the office should be considered a gas lift. It is a kind of cylinder made of steel. An inert gas is pumped inside this cylinder. The purpose of this mechanism is to adjust the height of the chair, and it also functions as a shock absorber.

Gas lifts are divided by the length of the rod extending, as well as by the internal pressure mechanism. The quality of a given mechanism is determined by the category assigned to it. There are four of them in total and the highest quality category is the fourth.

The crosspiece is the base of the chair. It is to this that the rollers are attached, which allow the employee to move around. And everything else is installed on the crosspiece. Accordingly, the larger the size of the chair itself, the larger the diameter of the crosspiece should be. It seems that there is nothing complicated about the crosspiece. But this is a deceptive look. Behind the apparent simplicity lies a rather complex product that bears the entire load.

Armrests

Upholstery and filling

For the upholstery of modern chairs, artificial materials are currently used, often using genuine leather or its substitutes. Synthetic materials have greater wear resistance, increased tensile strength, and “pellets” do not form on them. These materials wear out less. During the production process, the materials from which the upholstery will be made are impregnated with special compounds that increase antistatic properties. All this allows us to achieve high quality fabrics.

Almost all modern chairs, and not just office ones, have the same filling. Either foam filler or polyurethane foam is used. In principle, this is the same thing, but there is a slight difference. Foam rubber is not the most durable material; it has increased air permeability; it is supplied to production in the form of blocks of various thicknesses, from which the desired shape is subsequently cut out. In contrast, polyurethane foam is more durable. It already has an anatomical appearance.

Mechanism of operation

In order to sit well in a chair and work well, it is very important that this chair has adjustment mechanisms.And not only did it have, but these mechanisms must be located in a conveniently accessible place. Of the variety of adjustment mechanisms, several types can be distinguished. Mechanisms can be divided into simple, complex and swing mechanisms.

Simple mechanisms only allow for height adjustment. Typically, this type of mechanism is used on chairs for employees.

The swing mechanism is designed to fix the chair in the working position.
