DIY coffee table restoration
Interior items have their own service life. In this article we will talk about the coffee table. Over time, it becomes chipped, the varnish becomes cracked and stained. It would seem that the interior detail needs to be written off, but we will not make hasty decisions and will certainly save the table. That is, we will restore the coffee table. Restoration should be understood as the process of returning old damaged things to their attractive and aesthetic appearance.

DIY coffee table restoration
This process is not difficult. It does not require special skills or artistic imagination. And the work itself is very short in time, time is occupied only by the drying stages, but first things first.
Selecting materials and tools
To update the product we need to prepare:
- primer;
- acrylic paint;
- brushes;
- furniture wax;
- sandpaper.
Update process
Includes several stages:
- analysis into component elements;
- cleaning (removal of old coating);
- surface restoration and preparation;
- painting;
- consolidation
A certain difficulty in restoration lies in the fact that the object must be processed completely: tabletop, base, legs. Once assembled, it is not possible to carry out all the necessary procedures efficiently, so we are disassembling our table.
In order to clean the details of the table from traces of varnish or previous decor, we take sandpaper (coated with coarse coarse crumbs) and thoroughly remove everything down to the “wood”.
IMPORTANT. BProtect your eyes and respiratory tract from contact with cleaning elements.
Cover the cleaned surfaces with the soil mixture. Rub it in thoroughly. At the painting stage, we can introduce some decorative elements, such as applying patterns with a thin brush to a surface painted with acrylic paint. But here we need to have a sense of proportion, say, if our table was previously of a uniform color with signs of minimalism, then decorating it “under Khokhloma” would not be restoration in the classical sense of the word, but rather decoupage or decoration, which was not part of our plans.
IMPORTANT. This process will take the most time, because the disassembled parts will have to be covered in several layers, and each one must dry quite thoroughly, and outdoors, since the fumes of acrylic paint are harmful to health.
REMEMBER. After the paint layer has dried, we treat it with sandpaper coated with fine crumbs, after which our paint will not leave smudges or streaks.
Sometimes, as a coloring option, maril water composition is used. It is also applied in several layers, achieving the desired depth of tone.
After our table has been restored, we will now consolidate the work done. Take the wax and melt it in a water bath. When it has cooled a little, apply it with a wide brush to the surface and all other components. Next, after drying, gently but thoroughly rub it in with a soft cloth. We repeat the procedure until our coffee table becomes perfectly smooth.
Then we redistribute the varnish.At this final point, it is worth paying attention to the choice of varnish. If we set the goal of a bright, rich shine, then we choose one of the varieties of glossy varnish. If we need to get a calm effect, then we opt for velvet and matte varnishes. Fortunately, there is now a great choice of varnish coatings.
Well, our old coffee table has been completely restored. It’s very nice when things returned to their perfect appearance, and you managed to restore it yourself.
