DIY changing table

The birth of a new family member is a very joyful event and at the same time quite expensive. After all, a child is literally an expensive pleasure. A baby needs a lot of things: a crib, a stroller, diapers and undershirts, bottles, as well as a changing table and a spacious chest of drawers. If you have carpentry experience, free time and the necessary materials, you can make some parts of the interior yourself. For example, assembling the changing table yourself.

Types of tables

Changing board. This is a soft board with sides, covered with waterproof material. It is very convenient to use, as it can be easily moved to the desired place;
Whatnot. A frame made of various materials and equipped with drawers. They can be plastic, wood or metal. The upper part of the shelf is a soft surface covered with material;

Chest of drawers with diaper. A very comfortable and practical piece of furniture. It is a small children's chest of drawers, on top of which there is a removable changing board. All tables are easy to use and you need to choose which one to make based on personal preferences and the size of the room where it will be installed. First of all, a drawing is selected.

Selecting materials

Whatever option of changing table is chosen, the materials required for each option are almost the same.

The frame will require chipboard or MDF. Of course, natural wood would be better.

IMPORTANT! But, firstly, the tree is very heavy, and secondly, it is expensive;

• For a soft board you will also need chipboard or MDF;
• Primer, stain, paint, varnishes;
• Self-tapping screws, furniture corners, guides and other accessories. All this will need to be carefully hidden to avoid injury to the baby;

When purchasing materials for manufacturing, you need to make sure of their quality. They must be safe, non-toxic, and not have any unpleasant odors.

A soft mattress will also be needed. To make it, you will need:

• Material for padding: holofiber foam rubber or synthetic winterizer;
• Waterproof fabric. You can take raincoat fabric, if you don’t have one, then medical oilcloth will do;
• Threads and needles;

You will also need tools:

• Electric jigsaw;
• Drill;
• Sandpaper;
• Screwdrivers;
• Grinding machine;

After all the necessary materials and tools have been prepared, you need to decide on the size of the future table.

Determining the dimensions

The most common are a hanging table and a changing table, which is fixed to the surface of the chest of drawers. The first option is in demand because it is very convenient and does not take up much space.The second is practical; in the future, the table can be removed and the chest of drawers can be used for quite a long time.

The diaper can be made in absolutely any size, but the following sizes are considered the most optimal:

1. The tabletop, which will be attached using grooves made in the sides - 805x785 mm;
2. Rear wall - 772x100 mm;
3. Sides - 815x35 mm;

REFERENCE! Side panels should be in double quantity.

1. Front part - 815x35 mm;
2. Table legs - 600x40 mm. The legs in the future will be attached to the side walls;

These dimensions can be changed, since most often this version of tables is made based on the dimensions of the available furniture.

Hanging folding diaper changer

The standard sizes for this type of table are:

1. Width - 950 mm;
2. The height of the side panels is 100 mm;
3. Depth - 660 mm;

You will need two bases and three sides.

For this version of the changing table, in addition to the basic materials, you should additionally purchase gas - elevators, which are used in the manufacture of moving parts of furniture. Gas elevators will ensure a smooth lowering of the structure and protect against its possible spontaneous opening.

This table is often equipped with additional shelves. The size of the parts for the shelves is selected based on personal requirements.

It must be mounted on a strong wall; drywall is not suitable for this. The suspended structure must be very well secured to support the weight of the baby.

Portable table

If a portable pelenator is being manufactured, its dimensions are as follows:

• Base - 900x600 mm;
• Sides - 900x100 mm;
• Sides can be made only on the sides of the structure, but you can also make a headboard.Its dimensions will be 600x100 mm;

1. The width of the mattress depends on the size of the table itself and is equal to the width of the table plus the width of two pillows. For example, if the width is 600 mm and the height of the sides is 70 mm, the mattress will be 740 mm;

3. The fabric must be taken with a margin of 50 mm on each side plus seam allowances;
4. If the table has a headboard, the mattress must also have one. Their sizes must be equal;

Manufacturing instructions

Whatever option of changing table is chosen, the manufacturing stages will be as follows:

• First you need to make a drawing, which will indicate all the parts and their dimensions;
• The parts of the table must be marked, taking into account the required dimensions. If some parts have rounded edges, and you don’t have a compass at hand, you can use a cup or plate of a suitable diameter;
• The parts are cut exactly to size;
• Next, you need to mark the places where the holes and fastenings will be;
• Then, using a drill, you need to drill all the necessary holes;

All through holes must be closed with plastic plugs to avoid injury to the baby.

You need to assemble the structure starting with attaching the sides to the base. It is necessary to add glue to the mounting holes;
Next, the remaining parts are assembled, also with the addition of glue;

After all the parts have been assembled, they must be tightened using a clamp and left until the glue has completely dried.

IMPORTANT! Before final assembly, all parts of the future table must be thoroughly sanded to remove any existing burrs.

Finishing

After the structure is assembled, it needs to be given its final appearance. If the parts are made of chipboard or MDF, this will not be necessary. A solid wood product must be sanded and then primed. After the primer has dried, the parts are painted and varnished.

Very often, hanging tables are installed in the bathroom, where the air humidity is quite high. Therefore, it is necessary to use moisture-repellent materials for painting.
