How to make a bench out of paper

paper bench optionEvery child wants his toys to form a special world, similar to the real one. For this purpose, doll houses, cars, and other toys are created. But dolls who have a house will probably need a yard around it. What's a yard without a bench? In this article you will learn how to make a paper bench yourself to please your child, avoid common mistakes and make the craft as close as possible to the original.

Tools and materials

materials for crafts Materials for such crafts can be found in every home, because there is nothing unusual in them. Any adult who has no problems with other activities that require relative manual dexterity, such as embroidery or minor household repairs, can make such a toy.

So, you will need:

  • brown and black colored paper;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • food skewers;
  • thick cardboard.

IMPORTANT! Take a photo in advance or find a photo of a real bench on the Internet. If you hold it before your eyes, the craft will turn out to be more similar to a real shop and more believable.

When all the necessary materials have been collected, you can begin to work.

Sequencing

making craftsFirst, decide on the size of the product. It should not be very large, but at the same time think about how the child will use the bench.Probably in combination with other toys, for example, dolls. In this case, it will be important to maintain proportions relative to them. It will be strange if the bench turns out to be larger or much smaller than the dolls or animals that the child wants to put there.

  1. Depending on the selected dimensions, cut out the necessary components from cardboard and paper. We will give an example of the dimensions of our craft so that it is convenient for you to understand how the parts relate to each other. Add or subtract a few centimeters to get the bench exactly what you need.
  2. We got two side parts 12 by 8 cm long, several strips a centimeter wide - 15 cm. Wooden skewers need to be cut so that their length is approximately 12 and a half centimeters. Now you can actually start making the bench.
  3. The parts need to be covered with colored paper, the side elements with black, and the stripes with brown. By the way, if you don’t have colored paper or just if you wish, you can color them with paints, colored pencils or felt-tip pens.
  4. Now we make three small holes in the side part, it is important to ensure that they are not through, otherwise the craft will be ruined. They need to be filled with glue and wooden skewers inserted into them. If you are afraid to fill the entire part with glue, you can dip the skewers themselves in it. After the glue has dried, the same must be done with the second part.
  5. Try to be as neat as possible or place the sticks parallel to each other. The result is a kind of bench frame, in which the features of the future product can already be guessed.
  6. After this, all that remains is to glue the stripes that represent the boards to the bottom and back.With an average toy size, 3-4 of them will fit on both parts. After this, check whether the elements of the bench are coming off, shake and tug. If everything is in order, then the work is finished.

Adviсe

You can complement the bench with forged twisted decorations. To do this, you will need thick wire with a diameter of 2-3 mm and acrylic paint to give it the desired effect. Using pliers, the wire is given the desired shape. The parts can be connected using tape, and then the “forged” parts can be covered with papier-mâché. This will also strengthen the frame of the product.

The paste with which pieces of newspaper are smeared can be prepared from boiled water and flour in the proportion of 3 tablespoons of flour per 500 ml of water, adding a little glue there. The resulting mass needs to be cooled and only then used to glue the wire. Please note that you will need not one or even two layers, but about 3-4, so that the papier-mâché turns out dense and does not fall apart in the future.

finished sketchThe next step will be to eliminate all the resulting irregularities. To do this, use sandpaper, first medium, and then fine grain. After this, the element is covered with self-hardening plastic, which is sold in small packs and hardens quite quickly, then the procedure for removing irregularities is repeated. However, you don’t have to try too hard here, because roughness may be appropriate to reproduce the “antique” effect and simply a more natural look of the bench.

The frame must have monograms, which are also made using plastic. Using a knife you can make them more expressive and deep, and also give the entire frame greater precision and “detail.” The last step will be painting.Everything is clear with black paint, but how to give the bench a metallic effect? Here you will need silver paint. It should be applied with a dishwashing sponge. Then we let the part dry, cover it with acrylic varnish and attach it to other elements.

Conclusion

simple bench option
As you can see, the last addition is much more difficult to complete than the bench described earlier. Such crafts can be used not only as toys for children, but also exhibited in competitions and win prizes, and also become a hobby that will delight you after a difficult day.

Perhaps an attempt to fulfill a child’s whim will develop into a real passion for this creativity.
