How to organize your closet
From a physics point of view, cleaning is a miracle, capable of turning three cubic meters of clothing into one, increasing the density threefold in a couple of hours. Once every few months, spending half a day sorting things, all women carry out a general audit of their closets. Except for those who have learned to maintain order constantly.

The process of cleaning a wardrobe: getting rid of unnecessary things
If the hangers and shelves have not been cleaned for a long time, you will have to take out the clothes, wipe the closet and put everything back. Not bad - in the process you can revise the distribution scheme of things so that it is comfortable to use. Recommendations and axioms to help:
- It is worth putting aside things that are not suitable for the current season, first checking that everything is in order with them. If a jacket has a broken zipper or a button is missing from pants, these issues must be corrected before storage. It makes no sense to leave a silk T-shirt in the closet in winter and a down jacket in summer. It is better to carefully pack unsuitable wardrobe items in cellophane and place them in the pantry or on the mezzanine.
- Don't be afraid to throw it away. Surely some of the carefully stored items can be safely used for rags or children's crafts.Jeans with a hole in the knee can be patched, a stain on a blouse can be covered with appliqué or embroidery, or a torn pocket can be sewn to a jacket. But let's be honest: this is not wartime or shortages. We refuse a suit without good reason - simply because we are tired of it, went out of fashion, or bought something better. 90% of plans to breathe new life into old things will not come true. But what is torn and dirty will lie on the shelf for years, displacing what you actually want to wear.
- Most likely, what is buried under a pile of T-shirts and jeans (especially if the closet has not been sorted out for a long time) is forgotten and will not be worn. It happens that the necessary thing ends up in this pile by accident and is considered lost (this is another plus of conducting an audit), but more often than not it is something that can and should be given away. In any city, charities will happily accept wearable items if the previous owners no longer like them.
- Japanese Marie Kondo wrote a book about the art of cleaning that has become popular all over the world. She advises leaving only things that bring joy at home. This is simple at first glance, but wise oriental advice.
- There are clothes that, for objective reasons, are rarely used - a tuxedo, an evening dress with a train, pajamas in the shape of a unicorn. But often, with every cleaning, we again put on the shelves what we haven’t worn for a long time, regretting throwing it away or giving it away. When encountering such an item, it is appropriate to ask yourself: will I really wear this or am I just planning to and will never actually wear it? Many people make it a rule to part with an item if it has not been used for a year. This applies not only to clothing, but also to equipment or furniture. Why do you need a coffee table that sits disassembled in the corner for 12 months and only takes up space?
Proper organization of space in the closet
When everything unnecessary and irrelevant is prepared for discarding, discarding and shelving, you can move on to things that will be used regularly.
Sorting secrets
To follow the system, you need to develop it. First, let’s decide on what principle the items remaining after getting rid of unnecessary items will be distributed in the closet. You can come up with your own idea or use someone else’s:
- arrange everything compactly, by color (some even hang dresses in a rainbow order);
- sort by category (skirts to the right, shorts to the left);
- use the Japanese method: roll up tight rolls of wrinkle-resistant items and put them in boxes with the ends facing outward so that you can identify what you need and pull it out without disturbing the general order;
- fold sets by composing them (for example, trousers and a pair of sweaters that fit best) - this method eliminates the need for a long time in the morning to select the right one;
- classifying things by type of material is a good way to ensure that, after washing all the synthetics or wool, you don’t have to spread it all over your wardrobe, but put it in one pile.
What to do with laundry
A drawer with underwear should be divided into small sections so that when you try to pull a stocking out of it, the entire contents do not end up on the floor. Practice shows that in a space divided into cells, it is more difficult to lose the necessary little things.
ON A NOTE! If there is little space and a lot of laundry, you can put a set of sets for a week on the nearest shelf, and put the rest in a plastic container and put it in the back of the closet. If the procedure is repeated once a week, the question “What to wear?” will not arise.
Where to store shoes
The best thing is in boxes! This will protect it from dust - especially important for textile and suede pairs. To prevent the boxes from being the same, you can paste photographs of the shoes inside on the ends. Before you send your boots or clogs to rest until the next season at the end of the season, you should:
- clean them thoroughly, spray them with deodorant, repair them;
- insert the lasts with which they were equipped, or stuff them with paper so that the shoes do not lose their shape over many months;
- It is better to store boots hanging to avoid folds and cracks on the tops at the bends;
- The skin must be pre-treated with cream or oil.
IMPORTANT! Keeping shoes in tightly closed plastic containers is harmful - they need to “breathe”. Lack of air circulation negatively affects the condition of the material.
What to do with accessories
Girls love jewelry, but they don’t like to untie spontaneous knots on tangled chains and beads. To keep your jewelry beautiful and neat, you need to have stands. For long necklaces, a metal towel rack with several handles is suitable: it can be attached to the wall, and the beads will become an interior decoration.
For rings, there are boxes and mannequins in the form of a miniature female hand. The earrings can be packed in an organizer, which you can simply make yourself by covering a piece of cardboard folded into a book with fabric and making holes for hanging earrings. This system will help keep small accessories from getting lost, and you won’t have to waste time selecting a pair.
Principles of organizing your closet
If everything is laid out in piles, and there is still free space in the closet, things have the opportunity to “breathe”. It also makes it easier to rearrange clothes when choosing outfit options.
When choosing a wardrobe structure, it is worth assessing your ability to adhere to the chosen scheme in the future. If it seems too complicated for daily maintenance of order, it is better to stop at something simple: as they say, “done is better than perfect.”
Save space
Nowadays there are many devices for storing clothes on sale - not just wardrobes. You can buy or make your own:
- a shelf made of boxes or baskets with “windows” on the sides for ease of access (a sachet or a piece of soap with a scent is placed inside to create a mood - for example, floral scent for a woman, sandalwood for a man, caramel for a child);
- a wall net for hanging shoes by their heels (a collection of sandals will become a decorative element);
- multi-layer hangers that cling to each other and allow you to hang five things in one place at once (another way to store sets) - you can make such a hanger yourself by putting a ring from a soda can on the handle;
- an organizer with small compartments, each for a pair of turtlenecks, hung on the wall or the outside of the closet;
- a remote rack for hangers - it’s convenient to select a dozen of your favorite items that are used constantly.
Save time
In order not to organize a global cleaning campaign every six months, five minutes of work daily and half an hour once a week is enough. If you put away what you've worn every day, it won't turn into a shapeless pile in which it's hard to find a T-shirt.
It's helpful to start a tradition on Sundays (or any other day) of spending 30 minutes tidying up just one shelf.If you follow this rule, your wardrobe will always be clean and sorted: by the time the cleaning of the last drawer is completed, the first one will begin to need attention. It's an endless cycle, but it takes almost no time or effort.
