What size should the sides of a crib be?

In general, the selection of the right size is carried out individually, based on the size of the crib and its placement. For cool rooms with a window and the cold season, it is better to choose higher sides; for restless children who move a lot, place them around the entire circumference of the crib. There are many variations in sizes and colors for them, as well as variations in decor. Often, protective pillows come with a set of linen in matching colors. You can also use rollers: they are suitable for children who do not yet know how to move independently.

Height

The standard height of an average baby crib is about 60 cm. The height of the sides can vary: cover only the bottom of the bars, rise to about half the height or two-thirds, or completely cover all the bars.

The maximum height is the best protection against drafts, but at the same time it has its disadvantages: the child will not see anything happening around him, and his vision will be limited. This arrangement of the sides can affect mental development.

The protection of the crib, which obscures it by about half or a third, allows the child to freely explore the world around him, but at the same time, the function of their protection is significantly weakened.

Low bolsters are suitable for newborns, they will protect from blowing air and protect the bed.

Important! Decorative elements and fasteners are sure to attract the child’s attention, so it’s better to avoid decorations that can easily be torn off, and choose sides with hidden zippers.

Lenght and width

Just like the height, the remaining measurements of the bumpers, as they are otherwise called, must be correlated with the child individually. For a newborn baby, protection from only two sides or long bolsters will be sufficient, while for an older child it will be necessary to cover all four sides with safe pillows. To do this, you can purchase long pillows rolled up like a roll: attaching them to the corners of the crib will create reliable protection. Additionally, you can use several pillows.

These sides are standardized, they can be combined in a way that is convenient for the child, placing them both around the entire perimeter and covering individual sides.

Purchasing a transforming side is a good and practical solution for a bed of non-standard shape or size.It is first used on a small baby bassinet, then when the baby is moved into the crib, the rest of the side is added to it. It serves as the creation of some kind of playpen and safe play space for the child. Transformers consist of several pillows, this allows them to be multifunctional and occupy all the necessary internal space. The ability to remove some parts allows you to use them not only as side pillows, but also as a playground. Many pads have ties that make it possible to tie the pads into a small mattress for playing on the floor.

Unlike conventional ones, such sides are easier to maintain. If necessary, you can replace only one pillow, and washing one pillowcase is faster and more convenient than removing it from the entire side of the bumper.
