The bed, without a doubt, can be called our best friend. How many wonderful moments, minutes and hours we spend on it! Sometimes alone, but sometimes not. But do we know everything about our friend?

What types of beds are there?

Today, beds are divided according to the following criteria.

By type of design

Due to their characteristics, all sleeping places can be divided into different types, according to one or another characteristic. If you look at the design, you can highlight:

• Built-in beds;
• The beds are not built-in.

From the name you can immediately understand that built-in ones must be built in somewhere. As a rule, in walls, niches in rooms and all sorts of other places to save space.

Not built-in - they just stand in the room. In most apartments you can find this type of model.

Built-in type, can be divided into:

• Transformers or just folding ones. They use lateral or vertical lifting. If the bed is not needed, then it can be hidden without difficulty;
• bed - podium - the best choice in small rooms. The point is that a raised platform is erected in the room. You can slide a bed inside it, which has wheels. Thus, in addition to a sleeping place, we also have a comfortable workplace;
• mobile, transformable - usually such beds are presented in the children's model range. The bottom line is that one of the beds can hide under the other. As a result, the sleeping area expands and you can get a place to rest for two children.

Non-built-in beds can also be divided into several categories:

• bed - folding bed. Most of these models have a base with an orthopedic effect. If the need arises, such a bed can be easily hidden;
• sofa - transformer - depending on the time of day, it can turn from a sofa into a beautiful bed;
• classic type of bed - it has four high, sometimes low legs; you can easily install a canopy on them, if desired;
• An ottoman is a wide sofa that can be either with or without a backrest.

In addition, the following types of classification can be distinguished based on design features:

• Hard beds;
• soft beds;
• wrapped beds - these types have a special covering with filling inside.

They all have the same characteristics, so the choice of a particular model is only a matter of personal tastes of each person.

By number of seats

Everyone knows how beds are classified by size. The gradation depends on the number of beds:

• Single beds (size 80-100 centimeters);
• one and a half (size 140-150 centimeters);
• double (size 160-200 centimeters).

When choosing, you need to take into account the length of the structure. You should focus on the person’s height. And add another thirty centimeters to this value. Height is also important. Don't take low beds. They are intended for older people and it is difficult for an ordinary person to rise from such a bed.

By age

Sleep is health! For truly healthy sleep, the bed should contribute to this. Therefore, you need to select it wisely. The choice of sleeping place depends largely on the age of the person. With the adult category, questions, as a rule, do not arise. The size of the sleeping area is within 90 by 200 centimeters and reaches 180 by 200. But children cause a lot of trouble and make you think.

Let's try to understand the variety of children's models.

• Baby cradle – it is required for newborn babies and only for the first six months of their life. Then you will have to buy another option, since the child will already outgrow this one. The classic version is a comfortable place to sleep; it has an adjustable bottom and grille. This is a huge benefit that will make moms' lives easier. The main thing is to choose a fine lattice so that the child’s fist can pass through, but his head cannot. You should also pay close attention to a mattress with a lattice support. Since children often use a bed instead of a trampoline, the base of the crib should not sag. Buy a hard mattress, it is more useful than a soft one. A soft base is harmful to a child’s still fragile body. This model is intended for children under two years old. This model is intended for ages from 6 months to 2 years.
• The playpen is a similar to the previous model.
• A preschooler's sleeping place is purchased for a child from two to six years of age; during these years he is more active and mobile. The loft bed model has become the most popular. This is a place not only for sleeping, but also for playing.
• School option – required for a child from six to thirteen years old. The size is already approaching the standard 90 by 200 centimeters. This type may have two floors, but it does not have a play area.
• For a teenager – required from 13 to 18 years of age.

Depending on the availability of additional equipment

Today, buyers are no longer satisfied with just a place to plop down after a hard day’s work. No! Give them something unusual. So what else unusual can you find in beds?

Therefore, designers create beds with drawers, built-in bedside tables or shelves, and panels. So to speak - a multifunctional bed.

By bottom type

Structures based on the type of their foundation were placed in a separate group:

• solid - include types that are a box with a mattress laid inside. Models with a flat bottom. Usually board, and most often plywood. The downside is the difficulty of air movement inside, which causes excess moisture to accumulate;
• with armor - this is the option of today. They also have a breathable mattress that does not retain moisture, and this model brings more benefits. The fact is that the slats create an orthopedic effect, thanks to which a person’s sleep is stronger and healthier.

By type, frame material

Beds can also be divided based on the material used in the frame:

• wood - the best and safest;
• metal – require coating with a special anti-corrosion alloy;
• combined types - a hybrid combination of metal and wood;
• with plastic and glass;
• based on chipboard or MDF - these are the most budget models, the main thing is to carefully look at the quality and absence of harm from the material.

By type of headboard, footboard

To prevent the pillow from slipping, a stopper is required, so it is better to take models that have a headboard. All headboards can be structurally divided into the following types:

• low or high headboards;
• without gaps or with gaps;
• There are soft and hard headboards;
• can be simple or with decorations;
• rectangular or square in shape;
• headboards can have an irregular shape, as well as a semicircle shape.

There are three types of headboards:

• the headboard can be monolithic with the body;
• can be wall mounted;
• can be attached - these are all kinds of bedside cabinets and ottomans that serve as a headboard.

The footboard is the second backrest. Do you personally need it? This is a question for you personally. Nowadays, most models are supplied without a footboard. It is very comfortable. Nothing bothers a person in a dream.

By shape

Today, models of a wide variety of shapes are produced. As a rule, models for one person or one-and-a-half-bed have the shape of a rectangle. For two people there are square beds. But there are also completely non-standard types in the form of an oval or circle.

Round beds, although their size corresponds to a place for two people, are suitable only for those who like to sleep alone. The two of them feel uncomfortable.
