How to disassemble a chair-bed
Sometimes our apartments have a layout that makes moving furniture difficult. Most often these are rather narrow doors. The only way out in such a situation is to disassemble and move it. As a rule, there are no problems with sofas and beds: there are many articles on the Internet with step-by-step instructions regulating the entire process of disassembling into components. But with a rocking chair everything is a little more complicated. Due to the low prevalence of this comfortable furniture, there is not enough information. If you decide to move a chair from one room to another or disassemble it and re-tighten it, you have to develop an algorithm of actions yourself.

Important points when disassembling the chair-bed
First of all, it is necessary to inspect the chair and determine the nature of the fastening. There are two main options, less often a combination of them. The first is that the fastening is hidden under the upholstery, the second is easily accessible. In the latter case, we go straight to studying the fasteners.
In the most difficult part, we are trying to assess where the tightening mechanics are located in the chair. There you will have to remove the outer layer of fabric to gain access to it. Some manufacturers anticipate that the owner may need to disassemble the furniture and make the outer layer in such places easily removable. For example, with a zipper or Velcro.
If nothing like this can be seen in the design of the chair, we try to carefully rip it open without damaging the upholstery. Quite often, the upholstery is not sheathed around the piece of furniture, but is attached from the inside out to staples. This option can save quite a lot of time.
Now we study the fasteners. The following constructs may appear here:
- Confirmat is a typical furniture screw, reminiscent of a self-tapping screw, only with a recess in the head. It is unscrewed in the same way, but using a special key.
- Eccentric coupler. Comes in different shapes and sizes. Most can be removed using a regular screwdriver, preferably a large one. There are also screwdriver attachments for these purposes, which you can try replacing with the largest drill bit. Using a power tool will make the job easier.
- A tie for sectional elements is also a common type of fastener. There shouldn't be any difficulties with dismantling it. Since it consists of a bolt at one end and a bushing with a head at the other. On both sides there are often recesses for Phillips or threading for regular screwdrivers.
- The corner is a familiar element from childhood, from school labor lessons. Here you just have to unscrew the screws.
Attention! To ensure successful disassembly, the correct tool must be used. If the connection is not possible, it would be a good idea to use WD-40 or an analogue, for example, SS-1000.
What not to do when disassembling
It is unacceptable to make rough and strong movements - such an approach to business is fraught with breaking furniture elements, tearing its coverings or breaking fasteners.
If disassembly is carried out for the purpose of repairing the frame or replacing the upholstery, you cannot leave part of the fittings unremoved.By the way, it doesn’t hurt to take a photo of the places where it is attached, so that later, when assembling, you don’t get confused.
In the case of disassembling a chair to move it to another room, it is strictly not recommended to do this partially, leaving parts of the furniture articulated, only loosening the fastenings and bending the parts to make the structure narrower. This is often done. This often ends in failure.
Disassembling the chair-bed depending on the model
There are certain nuances depending on the type of chair:
- It is better to not completely disassemble small-sized models for moving; if possible, it is enough to divide the structure into two parts.
- Double models are more reminiscent of a sofa or sofa and the principles of their disassembly differ little.
- Corner models must be disassembled from the back, which is present in the vast majority of chairs of this design.
Important! There are features that depend on the transformation mechanism.
Folding parts of the “accordion”, “tick-tock”, “telescope”, “puma” and “eurobook” types, as a rule, are not too different from disassembling ordinary furniture. Because of similar components.
But those designed according to the “dolphin”, “sedaflex” and “recliner” principle almost always consist of a metal frame. And they demand that this particular structural element be dismantled first.
