You can make many useful items out of old and unwanted denim items. Most people are accustomed to the fact that jeans are most often used to make bags or skirts. But in fact, they can also be used for more global projects. If you have a large number of unnecessary denim items, you can change the upholstery of the sofa.

What materials and tools are needed?

If you have collected a lot of denim items, do not rush to throw them away. By modernizing things, you can get good results in improving the interior of your home. For which you will need a little patience, as well as:

• scissors;
• needle;
• screwdrivers of different sizes;
• threads;
• directly jeans.

Preparatory work

The upholstery process begins with disassembling the furniture into individual elements. In this case, the stages of work will depend on the configuration of the sofa. As a rule, first unscrew the armrests (if any), then remove the backrest and mattress.

Upholstering a sofa with old jeans: step by step

To remove the old upholstery from the sofa, use a screwdriver, which is used to lift the staples holding the upholstery, after which they are removed with pliers.

You must work carefully so as not to damage the casing, which will be required in the future.

Recommendation: Before starting work, it is best to lay oilcloth or old newspapers on the floor. It’s just that while removing the upholstery from the old sofa, various debris and crumbled padding polyester will start to fall out.

When cutting old jeans, upholstery removed from furniture is used - it is used as a pattern. During cutting, it is necessary to make additional allowances of 2-3 cm; this is required for connecting different elements of denim fabric, as well as for further upholstery of the sofa.

Recommendation: If there is a lot of denim fabric, then you can sew various additional elements from it to decorate the room - cushions for sofas, curtains. This way you can create a harmonious and original interior.

Attention! Before stretching the upholstery cut and sewn according to the pattern, it is necessary to prepare the base. It is imperative to lay interlining, batting or foam rubber on top of the padding polyester or spring block. Such a gasket will protect the material from abrasion, simplify the process of tensioning the skin and extend its service life. Moreover, if you use a thick layer of foam rubber, the sofa will be much softer.

It is necessary to stretch the weave very carefully, preferably with an assistant. The sheathing must have the same tension in all places and in every direction.In this case, the product will look attractive, and the lining will not deform after a short time. It is convenient to fasten denim material with a stapler, but a regular hammer and furniture nails are also often used.

After the sofa has been upholstered, you need to reassemble the furniture in the reverse order. You need to act clearly based on photographs or video instructions, which were prudently recorded before during disassembly. If you only numbered the different elements, then assembling the furniture taking into account the plan is also not difficult.
