How to disassemble a corner sofa
The corner one has large dimensions, but for easy movement it is made of blocks. Before disassembling, it is necessary to clear the room in which it is located for comfortable work. Remove pillows and covers, if any, from the sofa. If a rearrangement is planned, it is enough to simply disconnect the blocks, move them to the right place and connect them back. As a rule, the blocks are connected with fasteners; to disconnect, you need to lift the block to the top, but sometimes the blocks are connected with bolts, in which case you cannot do without tools. If you need to transport this piece of furniture, you should stock up on tools and find a disassembly diagram.
Required Tools
To disassemble the corner sofa you will need:
- A screwdriver (preferably several, depending on the type, flat and Phillips).
- Pliers (large and small).
- Wrenches (preferably a complete set for disassembling the fastening)
- Furniture stapler (sometimes the fastener is hidden under the back upholstery; it will have to be unfastened and reattached).
- Screwdriver (with a set of bits).
- Level (if it is necessary to secure the roller guides).
- Packaging material (thick polyethylene, large and small bags).
- Scotch.
We disassemble the sofa for transportation correctly
Before transporting furniture, you need to stock up on packaging material, this can be strong polyethylene for large parts and bags for small parts. As already mentioned, remove from the sofa everything that can be removed without using tools, armrests, pillows, cover, separate the blocks. The corner block, as a rule, cannot be disassembled.
Further disassembly depends on the type of furniture. There is a mechanism inside the structure. There are several types of mechanisms; they are different in their design and operating principle, but this does not particularly affect disassembly. If there are side backs, they must be separated using a wrench or pliers. The fastener itself is located inside the part of the sofa with the back. It is enough to simply unscrew the nut on the fastener bolt inside the block and separate the backrest; often there are two such fasteners.
The main transformation mechanism may be hidden under the upholstery - it must be unfastened with a screwdriver. You should unscrew the mechanism from the walls of the furniture; for transportation, it is enough to disconnect only one side of the mechanism’s attachment to the walls on both sides of the sofa. If you are afraid of damaging the furniture or the mechanism itself, it is better to turn to professionals; this can save time and sometimes money on buying a new sofa.
In rare cases, there is simply no mechanism; instead there is a roller system, due to which this structure moves apart. In this case, it is necessary to extend the sofa and remove the roll-out part of the sofa from the roller guides.Next, unscrew the roller guides and disconnect the stopper, if any, these can be pieces of thick fabric attached to the back of the roll-out part.
In the additional block of the sofa, there are sections for linen; such a block can be disassembled by lifting the seat and removing it from the fastening loops. In the future, the fastenings with hinges and the back of the block can be unscrewed.
All parts should be packed in separate bags and secured with tape to the part of the sofa for which they were intended, so as not to later confuse which parts go where. Dimensional elements should be packed in thick polyethylene or cardboard to prevent damage when taken out of the house and further transported. It is advisable to wrap sharp edges of parts with cloth.
Transportation rules
An important point when transporting furniture is to prevent it from moving freely in the back of the car.. To do this, you need to secure it with a rope or stops. To avoid accidental staining, lay it down with cardboard. Try to initially place the overall part in the body of the vehicle, and the sidewalls and blocks can be placed nearby as stops. It is better to put pillows and other small items on top. It is advisable to use freight transport for transportation, but in order to save money, you can transport it in your own passenger car. To do this you will need a roof rack and a large interior. The main part of the sofa can be secured on top; before doing this, it is advisable to pack it well; small parts are best transported in the cabin and rear trunk.
