DIY dog sofa

If an animal lives in your home, you probably strive to create the most comfortable living conditions for it. If you wish, you can sew a sofa for a dog with your own hands; it will not be difficult to sew a sofa for a cat.

What you need to know

Before you start making a sofa, you need to take the measurements of your pet so that the future bed will satisfy him and make him comfortable. The choice of location for the sofa is also an important factor. This place needs to be free from humidity, it should be dry, warm and cozy. You should know that the bed must first of all be comfortable and soft for your cat, otherwise there is a chance that she may refuse it.

We sew a sofa for a cat with our own hands

This bed model is distinguished by its originality and simplicity, which your pet will definitely appreciate. The bed resembles a small sofa, sewn and assembled from simple fabric.

You will need

To start making a sofa, you will need:

• fabric, preferably durable and measuring 105x90 cm;
• filler, preferably padding polyester.

If you don’t have a whole piece of material, you can sew it from several pieces to get the right size.

Algorithm of actions

As mentioned earlier, before starting production, you need to decide on the location of the sofa and measure the size of your pet.

Further:

1. Copy the shape onto the material and cut it out.
2. From the fabric that remains, we cut out 8 longest ribbons.
3. We put two samples together and draw ribbons between them.
4. We stitch all sides of the future sofa, leaving 12 cm at each end. This is necessary to make it easier to fill the bed with padding polyester in the future.
5. Next, we turn our item inside out and fill it with filler. Place as much padding polyester as possible into the sides so that they are dense and keep their shape.
6. We sew up all the holes and sew the bottom, adhering to the shape of a rectangle.
7. We tie all the ribbons into a bow.
8. We place the bed in a pre-selected place and call your pet.

ATTENTION. If your cat is very fluffy, then to keep her from getting too hot, it is advisable to make the sides shorter. If, on the contrary, she is short-haired, then the sides can be made higher and filled more densely with synthetic padding.

We sew a sofa for a dog with our own hands

The principle of making beds for dogs is almost the same as for cats, but to make it correctly you need to understand that:

• dogs were domesticated long before domestic cats began to appear;
• Dogs' claws are not retractable and therefore they never get tangled or stuck;
• The toilet skills of dogs are much less developed than those of cats.

The main difference between a cat bed and a dog bed is the padding. Sintepon is not suitable in this case. The best material is coconut fiber or furniture foam.

• foam rubber grades from 35 to 45;
• thick fabric.

Algorithm of actions

Patterns for the softest and easiest to make sofas are given in the figure. On the left is for puppies, on the right is for mature dogs.

1. Cushions and sides are sewn from the inside, leaving room for stuffing.
2. The adjacent blocks are stitched with two seams to form a wing 2–3 cm wide, free from stuffing.
3. The stitched blocks are turned right side out through the holes.
4. The sides and pillows need to be folded to the inside.
5. Foam rubber is placed into the stitched blocks through the holes.
6. The holes are closed with an external seam.

IMPORTANT. The material for a dog sofa is the same as for a cat sofa, except for fluffy fabrics that retain various secretions. Suitable for various types of synthetics. Due to the skin glands, dogs are less sensitive to static electricity.
