Types of spring blocks in a sofa

Different types of springs are installed in upholstered furniture, which differ in properties, parameters and price. Most often used:

3. Spring snake. The simplest filling option for upholstered furniture.The spring is attached to the frame, and polyurethane foam or other material with a thickness of at least 0.8 cm is placed on top of it. It is comfortable to sit on sofas with a snake, but they are not suitable for sleeping, as they create a “hammock” effect and the spine takes on an irregular shape.

Peculiarities

The block got its name “snake” due to its bending shape. Externally, it looks like a twisted wire, on which filler is laid on top. The number of springs depends on the size of the sofa. Although this type of base can be applied to all types of furniture, it is more suitable for those that are not used for sleeping.

IMPORTANT! The material used to produce the “snake” is steel wire with a high carbon content. The thickness of the wire and the density of placement determines the final performance characteristics of the furniture.

The technology for installing a spring snake is very simple. The structure is attached inside or directly to the frame at a fixed distance between the fasteners. For fastening, a hook is used - a curved metal plate, which ensures the strength and reliability of the structure. There are also disadvantages, but they are more than offset by the availability and simplicity of this spring unit. Among them are:

• insufficient depreciation - the spring bends under the weight of a person, and, trying to rise, he sinks even deeper;
• not used on folding and corner sofas.

The shape of the snake and fasteners allow it to be integrated only into the simplest designs.
