How to make an electric grill with your own hands

A shish kebab made on charcoal is much more interesting to eat than the same meat from a frying pan. And if you’re also in good company, then it’s a sight for sore eyes. One problem - while everyone is pouring and enjoying themselves, one chef is always near the grill and misses the most interesting part. Is there a solution? Of course, this is an electric grill. By the way, the meat on it is fried more evenly than with even the most vigilant control of the process. It is this miracle of mechanization that we will talk about today.

Option 1

Materials and tools

To assemble a simple but very useful device, you won’t need much:

  • electric motor with a power source, similar to what is used to operate windshield wipers on a car;
  • eight bolts and sprockets like bicycle nuts (preferably the same size) with sixteen nuts;
  • bicycle chain;
  • piece of profile pipe as a basis for the drive;
  • a pair of metal plates for attaching the drive structure to the grill;
  • the grill itself.

Tools you will need are a drill with metal drills, a grinder, cutting discs, a welding machine, and a hacksaw may come in handy.

Electric drive assembly

The first thing to do is slots for skewers at the ends of the bolts. To do this, holding the bolt in a vice, make a cut at the end opposite its head with a hacksaw with a depth of 8-10 millimeters. Those who are tougher can do this with the help of an angle grinder.The main thing is not to spoil the thread; you will need to screw two more nuts onto the bolt.

So we make grooves on all the bolts one by one. Next, we drill eight through holes in the profile pipe with a diameter corresponding to the bolts. We measure the distance between them so that the skewers on which the meat will be strung do not cling to each other when rotating.

We put an asterisk on the bolt, screw on the nut, then thread it into the hole in the profile pipe. Screw on the second nut, so that it covers the cut in the bolt and holds the skewer in the resulting socket when rotating. We choose the length of the bolts in such a way that the entire structure can be tightened with nuts to the corrugated pipe, and the ends with cuts do not protrude too much.

Option 2

Using metal plates, we weld the profile pipe to the side of the grill. You can also make a collapsible structure using the same bolts. On the opposite side of the barbecue, exactly opposite the bolts, at the same distance we weld metal rings or large washers with large holes for holding skewers and with cuts on top (so that the skewer can be conveniently placed in the stock, and not threaded into the ring).

Unit testing

We put the bicycle chain on the sprockets and on the electric motor shaft. We supply power to it and see how the “shaitan machine” works. The rotation speed can be adjustedby connecting a rheostat to the circuit and rotating its handle. If everything is satisfactory in the work of the resulting structure, then what are we waiting for? I hope the meat is already marinated. We light the fire, wait for the coals... However, what should I teach you?

Some complain that if you compare kebab prepared in this way with the one cooked on a regular grill, the taste is not the same. Let me tell you - this is complete nonsense.The difference in taste can only be because the meat is fried evenly, and not burnt on one side and raw on the other. Here, whoever likes what. The only disadvantage of the resulting device is the mandatory presence of a power source for its operation.
