DIY brick grill
A barbecue is not just a device for frying meat over a fire, it is an indispensable attribute of cultural recreation in your area. You can not only fry meat on it, but also cook other dishes. Smoke food, cook fish soup, bake vegetables, etc. Such a structure will serve as an additional decoration for the entire site, so you should approach the development of the project thoroughly and thoughtfully.

Choosing a place for a barbecue
When choosing a place to build a barbecue, you should understand that meat will not just be fried here. There should be a rest area around. Near it you can sit on sun loungers and place a table. Sit with friends over a glass of ice-cold, foamy drink. I don’t think that your plans include building a barbecue, the use of which does not bring comfort. When choosing a site for a future barbecue, you need to consider some rules:
- the grill should be located next to the resting place;
- there must be a specially prepared and level area;
- it is necessary to have a good approach to the device, if possible more than one;
- there should be water nearby;
- need protection from precipitation;
- the structure should be located away from cultural plantings.
When choosing a location, you should take into account the direction of the wind.
Important! Since an outdoor barbecue is a source of fire hazard, it should be located further from buildings, as well as from the parking area.
Designing a brick barbecue: types and diagrams
Ordering the construction of a barbecue at your dacha is not the cheapest pleasure. However, if your hands grow from the right place and you have at least some experience in working with bricks, then it is quite possible to build a simple barbecue yourself. The necessary elements must be provided in advance. It’s worth thinking about a smokehouse, grill, cauldron before the first brick is laid. There are a lot of different drawings on the Internet.
Attention! Design is a crucial moment. Many lovers of outdoor recreation, when assembling a barbecue, do not use drawings at all. The resulting structure is only suitable for growing flowers in it. Of course, a good result, but the meaning was different. When choosing a project, take into account the size of the future structure, and this will also be affected by the size of the site. Design the size of the firebox based on the amount of food you plan to cook at the same time.
The length of the firebox is one hundred centimeters. This length is enough for ten skewers. The width is enough to be 62 centimeters. The grilling area should be slightly higher than the waist of the person who will be in charge of the barbecue. Since a stationary barbecue is a decoration of the site, do not forget to take this into account when designing the structure and choosing a place for installation. Install the reverse side so that it is not visible or decorate it, but do not forget about fire safety.
Brazier simple DIY design
The foundation is the basis of any structure. Even such a small structure as the grill below requires good support. Whatever one may say, the foundation will need to be poured. It can be strip or tiled. Naturally, the stove is more reliable; it is not afraid of winter frosts, which means that the structure will not be damaged.
The foundation for the grill should exceed its dimensions by about fifteen centimeters. The first step is to remove the turf. If the need arises, a small pit is made, 15 centimeters deep, which is filled with crushed stone and compacted. If possible, it is better to use a vibrating plate for these purposes.
Depending on the type of foundation chosen, the formwork is assembled. In order not to think about strength, it is better to make a reinforced foundation. You can use rods for this. Concrete for the foundation - M200.
If, while construction is underway, the air temperature remains at around plus twenty degrees, then work can continue a week after pouring the foundation. By this time, the concrete has almost 50% strength.
It's time to install the waterproofing. First, we lay roofing felt or other rolled types of waterproofing. Cover the top with a liquid waterproofing compound. Now you can start laying the brick.
The design of this outdoor grill is so simple that even if you have no experience, it will be easy to put together. Externally it is made in the form of the letter “P”. It consists of two parts - the fryer itself and the table located next to it. It is easy to make changes to the design. If desired, you can add an additional section, the width dimensions can be easily changed, and the depth can also be modified. If you plan to cook a lot of kebabs, you can place two ledges under the grates.
The standard sizes are:
- width - 180 centimeters;
- in depth - 90 centimeters;
- in height - 100 centimeters.
For laying a barbecue, not only fireclay, but also solid brick is suitable. In total you will need 202 pieces.
The lower part is laid out using a cement-sand mixture. The proportions should be one to three. You can add one part of lime. Above the fifth row there will already be heating. Here, instead of cement, clay and sand are used. The finished solution should resemble sour cream. Just not the kind in the store, but normal homemade sour cream.
To obtain an even masonry, you need to pull the cord and lay it out. At the same time, do not forget to check not only the rows, but also all the bricks using a building level. The verticality of the rows is checked using a plumb line. You can buy it ready-made, or you can make it yourself. A plumb line is an ordinary rope with a weight attached to the end. It is possible to check the vertical accuracy of the masonry using a level, but it should be borne in mind that it has an error.
The ordering scheme of this design is elementary and will not raise any questions. If there is no precipitation, the grill needs to be kept for four days, after which you can gradually light a fire in it. You should heat it carefully for two days. Lay thin firewood. And then you can grill the kebabs.
What is special about building a barbecue in a gazebo: step-by-step instructions
If you want to place a brick grill inside a gazebo, then the option described above is not suitable, since the structure will be a source of smoke in the room. This requires a different approach, namely a design with an exhaust pipe. And although such a grill is somewhat more difficult to put together, it can be done. Let's consider a fairly simple procedure that you can handle on your own without involving outside forces.
Average design size:
- width 150 centimeters;
- depth 75 centimeters;
- total height 217.5 centimeters (without pipe).
The cold part can be laid with ceramic bricks. The firebox area should be lined with fireclay bricks.
Up to the eleventh row, a mixture of cement and sand is used, and then clay and sand. The seams should be no more than seven millimeters thick. It is important.
The design includes three compartments where you can store firewood, coal or other fuel. The firebox area starts from the twelfth row. This is a place for fire, installation of grates and racks for skewers.
Since this design has a more complex order, the situation needs to be clarified. The first row is placed at the floor level of the gazebo.
Four rows must have a dressing. This will be a place for firewood. Three metal strips are placed on top of the fifth row. They should be three millimeters thick and fifty millimeters wide. The sixth row of bricks is laid on them. We lay both the sixth and the seventh strictly according to the scheme.
Starting from the eighth row, we lay out cameras for various little things. You need to watch the seams carefully. They should not coincide with the previous rows. This ensures the strength of the masonry. Where required by the diagram, the brick must be cut. Not only halves, but also quarters are used.
The eleventh row does not have a wall, but metal strips need to be laid on it again. The twelfth row will be slightly larger than the rest. The back wall is the same as the previous ones, and in front it will protrude three centimeters.
The thirteenth row is continuous. A brazier will be placed on it.
When you reach the twenty-second row, start using fireclay bricks. There will already be a front wall of the smoke exhaust pipe, you will need a corner. This row will be larger than the others in size: in the front part the bricks protrude three centimeters above the corner.Further even wider, then gradually reduce it. With each row the smoke channel decreases. Starting from the thirtieth row we form a pipe. It needs to be raised above the roof by at least half a meter. When erecting the pipe, alternate the thirtieth and thirty-first rows.
Options for additional equipment for a simple barbecue
If there is a desire to supplement the design with other elements, then you need to prepare the necessary drawings. Any additional element complicates the project, so errors may occur. Most often in designs there are cutting tables, a place for washing, and a frying stove.
Cutting table
Adding a cutting table to your barbecue design is quite simple:
- To do this, you need to lengthen the back wall - dressing with the central post becomes more complicated;
- the structure is complemented by another wall;
- A tabletop is placed on this wall.
You can place the cutting table on any side, the main thing is that it is convenient.
Frying plate
In addition to kebabs, sometimes you need to cook other dishes that require the use of pots or pans. There is a need to add a frying surface to the design.
This can be achieved using the following steps:
- the structure, starting from the bottom row, is lengthened;
- a wall with a hole for the firebox is erected;
- The frying plate is complemented by cast iron rings, which allows you to regulate the heating.
Washing
A sink will complement the design. You can connect a water pipe to it, or you can simply install a water container.
Connecting the pipe to the sink complicates operation, as this will require complete drainage in winter and preservation of the system.
When working on the barbecue area, the main thing is to be patient, be careful and use your imagination.You can always come up with and build something of your own that no one else will definitely have.
