Surprisingly beautiful: amazing things from everyday life a hundred years ago

People's lives are changing at lightning speed. Even 35 years ago, they did not know about such unique inventions as a multicooker, a bread machine, a mobile phone, and a milk frother. And today we look at some things with caution - like our children look at cassette tape recorders (or reel-to-reel tape recorders in general).

Our dishes are washed by a dishwasher, the floor is cleaned by a robot vacuum cleaner, and the windows are cleaned by a magnetic brush. Manual work is becoming less and less - these responsibilities are transferred to smart devices, which, it must be admitted, make a person’s life much easier.

What did household items look like a hundred years ago? After all, even then, many inventions were aimed at simplifying cleaning, saving time and effort. To understand how people lived, it is enough to visit one very interesting museum, which is located in Kaliningrad - Altes House. In fact, this is a typical apartment, but only when you get inside you realize that it is typical only in appearance. Unique items are collected here, and the apartment itself is a recreation of the interior of the early twentieth century, where the Koenigsberg merchant Gustav Grossman lived. Interesting? Ready to travel through time?

A unique museum and an equally delightful interior

It seems that time has stopped here. Admit it: visiting a person who lived more than 100 years ago is not only interesting, but also very entertaining.

Museum

The miraculously preserved authentic interior, original furniture and antique household items will allow you to look into the past and imagine yourself as a resident of East Prussia.

By the way, we once wrote about this apartment, however, it touched on the topic of why the Germans made a double sink. Now it is no less interesting to consider everything down to the smallest detail.

Museum

Here, for example, is this thing. Most of us will immediately say that this is a coffee maker, albeit an outdated model.

Boulotte

But no! This is a small saucepan designed to heat the broth. Typically designed for one person. She helped a lot when it was necessary to feed a guest who arrived unexpectedly. Or worse, even frozen. It even has a name - bouillotte.

Here's another interesting item. The first thought - yes, this is a Turk!

Chocolate girl

Well... almost right. In fact, this is a container for dispensing hot chocolate.

In the photo below you see something like a can. And this is a filter. Already at that time, people were extremely critical of water quality. Now we are spoiled for choice - bottled for you, buy spring water. And then you had to put a container like this at home to be sure of the purity of the liquid you consumed.

Filter

If you like to cook, then you probably know the main advice that any cookbook will give: to prevent the dough from sticking to your hands or rolling pin, you need to moisten your palms with water, and you can even keep the dough rolling tool in the refrigerator for a while. And it’s good advice! It works! So in the photo below you can see the rolling pin. It seems like the simplest...

rolling pin

Yes, indeed, the design is similar. But the secret is that the handles of this rolling pin are... removable. You just need to fill them with cold water and nothing will stick to your hands. Interesting, isn't it?

In general, being in the museum, you’re even somehow afraid to breathe. It seems that all this magic will disappear if you make just one awkward move. It’s very interesting, fascinating, fascinating.Unfortunately, museum staff have more than once encountered damage to unique items, and sometimes things simply disappear. But this is a terrible loss, since all these little things were carefully found, restored, and more than one person invested their lives into them.

Now let's take a closer look at some of the museum's exhibits.

Champagne whisk. Nowadays, finding such a device is not only difficult, but almost impossible. Often such accessories were made of precious metals and impressively decorated with ivory or crystals.

A very intricate thing is a pusher. The word comes from the English language, so it is clear that it sounds like “pusher”. In the photo you can see a spoon, and the object next to it is a special spatula for pushing food.

A purely feminine accessory is hair curlers.

In general, “Altes Haus” is not just an interesting place, but somehow especially magical, magical and alluring. If you are in Kaliningrad, be sure to visit the museum and tell us about your impressions.
