You can't live without a light bulb in your home. Therefore, you can meet it in any room. But over time, even the most expensive and reliable one breaks down. In addition, no light source is immune from burnout.
You shouldn’t rush and throw away a light bulb that has become unusable, because with some imagination and a little effort, you can give it a second life.

How to prepare a light bulb for remodeling
Before starting the creative process, it is necessary to prepare the light source, namely: remove its internal contents. For this you will need:
- Working surface. You can take a thick sheet of paper, cardboard or something else. They will act as a bedding for the glass that appears during disassembly of the light bulb.
- Pliers.
- Screwdriver.
Reference. Don't forget to wear thick gloves - they will protect your hands from cuts.
After this you can start disassembling:
- First you need to find the contact - it is usually located at the bottom. Grasp the pin with pliers and begin to gently loosen it. Continue this manipulation until you hear the crunching sound of the wires breaking.
- The second stage is contact extraction. Usually there is quite thick glass around the base, so the light bulb must be held firmly.Additionally, you may have to carefully chip away small pieces of glass around the base. When it is released, be sure to remove the contact.
- Next, we proceed to clean the base from any remaining glass. Use a screwdriver to remove any pieces of glass remaining on the inside of the base.
- Remove the leg, electrodes, holders. Then wipe the inside surface.
Using the resulting blank, you can create many original interior items.
Miniature vases
In principle, an empty light bulb is an original vase in itself. The problem lies only in the instability of the flask and its unattractive appearance. To give the structure stability, use one of the suggested methods:
- Option #1. You can heat the bottom using a gas burner. Under the influence of high temperature, the glass will begin to melt, and you will be able to give the future vase the desired shape.
- Option number 2. For a miniature vase, you can make a stand from wire. Wrap one end of the wire around the base, and wrap the remaining end around any round object with a large diameter.
- Option number 3. The flask can be glued to the stand using hot glue. A stone of an original shape or a tablet with a beautiful pattern are suitable for this.
- Option number 4. The glass cone can be hung on a ribbon by wrapping it around the base. A composition of several miniature vases placed at different levels looks especially impressive.
Reference. You can disguise the base by painting it or wrapping a ribbon around it. So no one will understand what the original vase is made of.
Florarium
Of course, a lush bouquet of cut flowers will decorate any room. But even with the use of special means, it will not live long. Unusual florariums can be an excellent alternative:
- Place a small amount of soil inside the flask. You can also add small pieces of bark and sand. Using tweezers, carefully place them inside the future florarium.
- Use a syringe to water the prepared soil. This way you will avoid splashing.
- Take the tweezers again and place the plant in the soil.
Reference. If you don't have the time or desire to care for a living plant, you can take an artificial composition instead.
Magic snow globe
A snow globe is a wonderful New Year's gift. Young children especially love them. You can also make it from an unnecessary light bulb - this is done quite simply:
- After you have removed the insides of the device, you need to find a cover of suitable diameter. For example, you can take a cork from a medicine or a wine bottle, a piece of plastic, or an acorn.
- Make a small through hole in the central part of the lid.
- Shape the soft wire into the desired shape. This can be a Christmas tree figure or a random curl.
- Pull the free end of the wire through the hole in the plug and bend it to secure it.
- Mix water with glycerin in a ratio of 7 to 3. Place glitter in the resulting solution.
- Carefully insert the plug into the base, then fill it with hot-melt adhesive.
- Turn the flask over with the base down and glue it to a prepared surface, for example, a board.
- To prevent the base from being visible, disguise it with ribbons or cotton wool.
Reference. Instead of wire, you can take small toys from Kinder Surprise.
Candles
An empty light bulb is an excellent mold for pouring paraffin. With its help you can get a neat and original candle. The main thing is to remember to place the wick during pouring. When the paraffin has completely hardened, carefully break the glass.
Burner
Pour oil, kerosene or alcohol into an empty flask. Dip the wick in the same liquid and place it inside the light bulb. The result is an unusual burner that can be an excellent decoration for a romantic dinner.
DIY kitchen decorations
The pear-shaped shape of the light bulb is ideal for creating original figures imitating fruits or vegetables. For example, you can wrap it with a soft cloth, after placing foam rubber under it, or paint it.
But the most popular option is to use cord or hemp. They need to be carefully wrapped around the flask, fixing each skein with superglue. You can decorate the resulting “pear” or “avocado” using leaves cut from colored paper.
Crafts for the New Year
Christmas tree decorations are the most popular option for crafts made from old light bulbs. Elongated lighting fixtures make original rockets, icicles, and various insects.
From pot-bellied flasks you can make penguins, snowmen, and draw animal faces.
For this you will need paints, glitter, beads, ribbons and other decorative elements.
Reference. Acrylic, stained glass, and contour paints are suitable for painting flasks. They adhere well to the glass surface and do not fade over time.
The technology for making Christmas tree decorations looks like this:
- First you need to prepare the surface. To do this, you need to wipe it with a cotton pad soaked in solvent.
- When the product has dried, you can begin painting.Apply several layers of paint, allowing each layer to dry completely.
- To make the pattern neat, draw it first with a simple pencil. Then apply paint to the prepared outline.
- While the decorative coating has not dried, it can be sprinkled with glitter.
Reference. The easiest option is to dip the flask in glue and then roll it in glitter.
We are accustomed to thinking that we should get rid of a burnt-out light bulb because it has become useless. But if we show a little imagination, even such a nondescript object can be made bright and original, and used to make decor or crafts for school.
