Can light bulbs be returned to the store?
When we go to a store for one purchase or another, we always hope that for our money we will get a high-quality product that can be used for a long time. Usually, any equipment is checked in front of the buyer in the store. This is normal practice.
But with light bulbs the situation is somewhat different. Not every one of us opens a package near the counter and asks to check its functionality. Moreover, not every store has the opportunity to carry out such a check. When we come home, we sometimes realize that not all dreams are destined to come true. Very often, purchased light bulbs may not match the size, light tone, or may not work at all.
On the buyer’s side is the Law “On Protection of Consumer Rights”. It states that the buyer can return the goods purchased from the seller within a certain time. There is no difference, which leads to the need for a return. The purchased light bulbs may simply not harmonize with the interior of the room. The product may not work or show signs of damage. In any case, a person has the right to return the purchase, the main thing is to adhere to a certain sequence of actions.

In what situations can a light bulb be returned to the store?
Article 25 of the Federal Law “On the Protection of Consumer Rights” provides the procedure for returning products purchased in a store. The reasons for this may be the following:
- The parameters of the purchased product, for example, dimensions, are not suitable;
- there is a manufacturing defect;
- functions are not suitable.
In accordance with the law adopted in our country, light bulbs do not fall into the section of goods that are not accepted after sale. If certain conditions are met, they can be returned to the store after purchase.
In order to retain the right to return goods, you need to take care of the safety of the packaging, as well as the cash receipt. The buyer has two weeks after the purchase has been made to contact the store. According to the law, it is possible to exchange goods for a similar one. If you can’t find something suitable from the entire assortment, you can ask for a refund of the money you paid. But to do this you will have to write a statement to the store management.
The grounds for exchanging goods or returning funds are:
- unsuitable product - you can exchange a light bulb if its size or power is not suitable or its luminous flux does not correspond to the required one;
- there is a manufacturing defect - if at the time of installation the light bulb burns out, this indicates an obvious defect from the manufacturer or that it was stored improperly.
In order to be guaranteed to be able to return an unsuitable or low-quality product, certain conditions must be met:
- the lamp LED must remain in the same condition as it was at the time of purchase, and also correspond to the declared characteristics;
- the product should not show signs of scuffs, any chips, cracks or scratches;
- the product packaging must be intact, have factory markings - all labels and store stickers must be present.
Is it possible to return goods purchased in an online store?
The same Law “On Protection of Consumer Rights” protects us when shopping online. Essentially, when making a purchase online, we focus on a bunch of beautiful pictures. They do not guarantee that the product is as pictured. We have no way to check it, inspect it, etc.
This is what gives us the opportunity to return the goods. All this is stipulated in article of the Law “On Protection of Consumer Rights” number 26.1.
If you placed and paid for an order in an online store, but the purchased light bulbs did not fit, then you have up to seven days to return them to the seller. The reason for the return is not important.
Reference. If the parcel with the goods is not accompanied by a memo that stipulates the possibility of returning the purchased goods within a week from the date of purchase, then the return period is automatically extended to three months.
Return procedure
If a light bulb purchased in a store fails during the warranty period, then nothing prevents you from replacing it with another one. In addition, the buyer has the right to count on compensation from the manufacturer or seller for the costs incurred..
In order to exchange or return a lamp to the store, you must have:
- passport;
- a receipt from the cash register, and if it is lost or not on hand, then enlist the support of witnesses;
- application for return or replacement.
As soon as the store has accepted the documents from you, you must return the money spent on the purchase and accept the low-quality product from you.If this is not done, then you need to prepare a claim to the store, one copy of which you should keep for yourself. If there is no further development of events or a refusal to return the money is received, then you need to write an application to the court of the district where you live or where the store is located.
If the return of the light bulb is refused
The blame for the fact that you purchased a low-quality light bulb or lamp lies entirely with the store employees. Typically, owners and sellers prefer not to have to deal with the court and will reimburse the buyer's costs without question.
However, if the store does not want to fulfill the buyer’s legal demands even after they have been presented with a written claim, then the buyer’s next action is to go to court. To begin legal proceedings, it is necessary to file a claim, as well as prepare photocopies of documents that confirm the fact of the purchase of low-quality goods, as well as the fact of refusal to exchange the goods or return the money.
