How to clean furniture yourself without strong chemicals

Not all housewives are ready to use modern household chemicals. Powerful formulations in bright bottles may be able to cope with severe stains, but at what cost? They often damage furniture. And you don’t want to breathe caustic chemicals into your home. Fortunately, there is an alternative. Today I will talk about traditional methods of cleaning furniture, for which you only need simple products.

Metal surfaces

Housewives who have decided on a chrome-plated kitchen probably know how many problems arise with it. The coating gets dirty very quickly with fingerprints from household members. In addition, aggressive chemistry can easily damage the fragile metal coating.

That is why it is better to remove all stains with a dishwashing detergent, preferably as gentle as possible. Gently apply the gel with a sponge to the furniture and rinse thoroughly with water. Wipe the metal dry with a soft towel so that no streaks remain on the coating.

Detergents

Serious stains can be removed with caustic soda and a soft sponge. But be extremely careful. If you rub too hard, scratches and chips are inevitable.

You can get rid of greasy shine and general grime with regular vinegar. Mix it with water and apply to the surface, then thoroughly polish the metal.

Natural materials

Furniture made of leather or wood requires a special approach. Aggressive chemical compounds are contraindicated for them. You can prepare the cleaning product yourself, spending a minimum of time and money.

I recommend cleaning furniture as follows:

  1. Wicker tables and chairs. Dust can be removed with a regular vacuum cleaner. For stubborn stains, a toothbrush and a simple soap solution will do. Use tweezers to remove stuck hair and pet fur.
  2. Wooden cabinets and tables. Wipe off dust with a microfiber cloth. For lacquered furniture, you can use a polish with a gentle composition. Painted wood is cleaned with a vacuum cleaner with a special attachment. Well, wood soaked in oil is cleaned with a mixture of turpentine and flax oil.

  3. Leather upholstery. The most low-maintenance material. It can be wiped with damp wipes. Eggs will help deal with severe stains. Wipe the surface of the sofa with protein, then rinse it dry with a wet napkin.

Simple home remedies can help get rid of greasy stains, dirt, and debris stuck to your upholstery.

In everyday life I use the following recipes:

  1. A solution of liquid or laundry soap in warm water. Be sure to use a composition without fragrances. Soak a rag in the soapy mixture and wipe the sofa thoroughly.
  2. Mix 1 liter of water, 1 teaspoon of vinegar and 2 teaspoons of citric acid. Soak a sheet in this mixture, cover the sofa with it and beat it well. Continue until the fabric darkens.
