An ordinary sponge, but how many benefits: why put it in the refrigerator

It would seem, what else could such a simple thing - a household sponge - be needed for, except for cleaning and washing dishes. But it's not that simple. It turns out that many people store this household item in the refrigerator, some completely dry, while others keep it moist.

Of course, such a moment can raise a lot of questions. Well, really, why else would you leave a dish sponge on the shelf in the refrigerator, unless you accidentally forgot it there when you were wiping the shelves from spilled liquid. But there is a reasonable explanation for everything, and now you will also be surprised how unexpected and very useful this life hack is.

Sponge

Sponge for washing dishes in the refrigerator - who needs it, why?

This is not just someone’s whim or oddity, but a completely functional solution that is used in various situations. So, why do they put a household sponge in the refrigerator?

To keep it fresh

In general, if you are used to visiting food markets and supermarkets every day, then you don’t have to read this paragraph further - you won’t need it. The fact is that a dish sponge can extend the life of vegetables, fruits and herbs if they sit in the refrigerator for a long time.After all, it is important to preserve them for as long as possible, so as not to eat spoiled food, and not to waste part of the family budget you know where, since stale food will simply have to be thrown into the trash.

If the fruits and vegetables in your refrigerator are quickly becoming soft, rotting, or disappearing, it's time to use this simple secret weapon.

It is known that the humidity level in the refrigerator is not always within normal limits. And this, as you may have guessed, really has a bad effect on the quality of the products - they simply spoil in a short time, since the shelf life is significantly reduced. To reduce the humidity inside the equipment, a household sponge will help. Just place it on any shelf, and it will absorb all the excess moisture due to its porosity.

By the way, you can also place it in the freezer to prevent frozen foods from leaking.

Rescue from bruises and sprains

Let's remember what we do first when we hit the edge of a cabinet or table? That's right - we immediately remember that cold should be applied to the site of the bruise. But, as luck would have it, there is never anything suitable in the refrigerator that could be useful in a particular case. It's like a kitchen sponge! I took it out, applied it, and it seemed easier.

To always have a simple remedy for cooling and relieving pain on hand, you need to take a sponge, wet it well, place it in a zip bag and throw it in the freezer.

Excellent alternative to refrigerants

Are you going on a picnic, but it’s so hot outside that you doubt whether the food will be delivered to your destination fresh and juicy? Of course, in this case, a thermal bag is ideal, but it is not used alone - it requires special refrigerants.These are small cylinders with liquid inside. They are pre-frozen and then placed in a bag. They accumulate cold, and therefore food always retains its freshness.

But what to do if you have a bag, but you haven’t purchased these cylinders. And here a sponge will come to the rescue. You need to follow the method described above:

  • on the eve of the trip we take several sponges (depending on the volume of the thermal bag);
  • we wet them well with water, and sometimes you don’t even need to squeeze them out;
  • put in a zip bag;
  • put it in the freezer.

In the morning the refrigerant will be ready. All that remains is to get the frozen sponges and place them on top of the food, since the cold tends to sink. But do not forget that their action will last for a short period - no more than 2 hours. If you like to travel for a long time, it is better to purchase special refrigerants.
