Unusual ways to use sealant

After repairs, there is always a lot of useful things left, which for some reason many people try to throw away as quickly as possible. Often these include extra tubes of silicone sealant. It turns out that this product can be useful not only for treating seams in the bathroom.

Sealant in creativity

Handmade lovers have long discovered this plastic material. Craftsmen make from it whatever their heart desires: various prints as elements of room decor and even dolls! The sealant is chemically safe, so there will be no harm to children from interacting with such a toy. And the products turn out to be very interesting and, most importantly, mobile.

This material can be used for sculpting by hand and for casting. followed by solidification in special shaped forms.

IMPORTANT! The main point to remember when working with it is stickiness. To prevent the sealant from sticking to your hands when sculpting, you must use Vaseline or glycerin.

Shoe repair

If you don't have shoe glue nearby, you can use a small amount of silicone. It will still stick perfectly, and the filling layer will also be water-repellent. The rules of use remain the same as for glue:

• clean and degrease surfaces;
• apply a small amount of the product (optionally using a syringe);
• Press the surfaces to be glued firmly against each other.

Excess sealant can be immediately wiped off with a cloth or cut off with a knife after drying.

Repair and sealing of seams in a wooden house

The principle of using sealant in this capacity is identical to operations in a regular apartment. This procedure is especially important for a wooden house due to the properties of the material to fill the empty surface, while providing heat and moisture insulation.

The junction of the logs may have a gap, which will increase over time, which means cold and dampness will be allowed inside. With the help of acrylic compositions such consequences can be avoided.

Water-repellent coating

When applying silicone in a thin layer to any surface, with which it is able to interact (metal, plastic, wood, etc.), a transparent water-repellent film is formed. This operation allows you to prevent the aging of the material, the appearance of rust, mold and other unpleasant aspects. For example, for this purpose, some car enthusiasts additionally coat their cars with sealant immediately after painting.

REFERENCE: It takes literally several hours for the composition to dry completely. But the thicker the layer, the longer it will take.

What about a cardboard aquarium?

At one of the exhibitions of waterproofing materials in the Kaliningrad region, a unique example of the use of silicone mass was demonstrated. With its help, it was possible to create a real aquarium from an ordinary cardboard packaging box. The highlight was also the fact that during the show there was even a goldfish swimming in it.

Obviously, there are a great many ways to use conventional construction sealant.And considering that they are also presented on store shelves in different colors, it is quite difficult to foresee a possible flight of fancy.
