Mousetrap made from a plastic bottle

Rodents are a big problem in private homes and industrial enterprises. They not only damage property and supplies, but also carry diseases that are dangerous to humans. Therefore, it is important and necessary to fight them. Moreover, a simple mousetrap can be easily made from available materials, including a soda container.

How to make a trap for rats and mice from a plastic bottle

Poisons are considered an effective remedy against harmful rodents. But in a house where there are animals and small children, this method is unacceptable. Therefore, mechanical traps are used. And for this you don’t have to go to the store in search of a rat trap. You can create it with your own hands.

A plastic bottle can be found in every home. Containers for milk, soda, alcohol and other purposes. Including five-liter bottles of clean water.

Required tools and materials

First of all, choose a container that is suitable in size. Usually one and a half liter and two liter bottles are used. The choice depends on the design of the future device. You may need a five-liter jar.

You may also need wire, tape and scissors or a utility knife. Don't forget about the bait: without this the mechanism will not work.

Popular models of mousetraps

At home, you can make several types of rat traps. It depends on the imagination of the master and the set of attributes that are at hand.

Simple mousetrap

It is recommended to try your own strength on an elementary structure. It can be made in a few minutes. To do this, cut off the bottom of a one and a half liter bottle using a sharp knife.

Afterwards, the “teeth” are drawn out with a marker so that they can be cut out later using scissors. Once ready, bend the prongs inside the bottle, leaving a small hole.

It is important to remember that the plug is screwed on tightly.

A bait is placed inside the structure, which attracts the rodent with its aroma. The mouse easily penetrates to the desired prey, and the sharp teeth, almost closed with each other, will not let it back.

Rocking Mousetrap

Another name is pendulum. The principle is simple: having got inside, the rodent, due to the pressure of its own weight, swings the bottle and cannot get out. It’s easy to make such a device with your own hands.

The step-by-step manufacturing guide suggests:

  1. Place a one and a half liter bottle on the table and, gradually moving the pencil, find a good location for the axis.
  2. Two through holes are made in the central line of gravity and a dense wire-axis is inserted.
  3. Make a stand from a board about 40 cm long. You can screw a couple of anchors under the axle, which will serve as excellent support.
  4. Two small bars are attached to the edges of the bottle. They will play the role of a stopper when the container swings.
  5. The finishing touch will be a piece of locking timber. It is installed opposite the neck, which, under the weight of the mouse, will lower and close in this way.

When the rat is inside at the level of the bottom of the bottle, the neck is free.As soon as the rodent wants to leave the trap, it lowers and rests against the block, cutting off the escape route.

From a bottle of oil

The easiest way to get rid of rodents. Take a container with a volume of 1.5-2.5 liters. Using a sharp knife, cut off the neck so that 2/3 of the container remains. Turn the cut part over and insert it into the base of the bottle. Secure the edges with wire and grease the walls with vegetable oil. The mouse will get caught and will no longer be able to get out of such a trap.

"Falling" rat trap

Take a one and a half liter bottle, tightly sealed with a lid. Cut a small hole at the top of the neck. Tie a thread to a support and place it on a raised surface from the floor so that 1/3 of the back of the container hangs down.

The rodent will get inside following the smell of the bait and under its weight the bottle will “fall”, hovering above the floor thanks to the rope. All that remains is to eliminate the rodent and reload the rat trap again.

From a bucket and a bottle

A real attraction for mice, which is also very effective in the fight against rodents. An ordinary plastic container with a lid is drilled through the cork and the center of the bottom. A thick wire is inserted inside.

Water is poured into the bucket to about halfway and the prepared bottle is installed, making it hang on a stretched wire. Also, a platform is extended to the plastic container, along which the rodent will get to the bait. Then all that remains is to wait for the rat to appear.

Big mousetrap

This option involves capturing several rodents at once. Having made this, you won’t have to reload it with bait every time. To begin with, prepare the edibles: a piece of nut is attached to a nylon thread, leaving loops on the sides.

A triangular window is cut out at the bottom of the plastic container - approximately 2 cm in diameter. It should bend easily into the container, but not allow the rodent to run free. At a certain elevation above the hole, through holes are drilled into which loops of the prepared bait are inserted.

The mouse, following the aroma of food, will easily climb inside and take out the workpiece, but will not be able to leave the container, having fallen into the trap. All of the above methods help to effectively catch and get rid of unpleasant neighbors.
