Kitchen lifehacks that I tested myself
The kitchen is a space where a woman feels like a real queen. Personally, I can feel this way if I have order in there, properly organized storage, a lot of cabinets, shelves and tables. But it doesn't always work out that way. This is how it is with my husband and I. I would like to share with you some kitchen gadgets that I use myself and am quite pleased with.

Colander
When we first moved in together, we didn’t even rent an apartment, but a room. Both of them didn’t have much property, so they had to somehow get out. And just a couple of days later I discovered the lack of one essential thing - an ordinary colander. As you understand, there was no money to buy it right away, but the colander was needed today (I had already set the pasta to boil).
However, I was not at a loss. I had one plastic bucket, I don’t even know what it was from, with a volume of 3 liters. And a small soldering iron. I turn on the soldering iron and calmly make the required number of holes in the bottom. By the way, now I have two colanders at home - one metal with handles and a tray, and the second a regular plastic bucket, but this bucket is still in use. It is convenient to peel potatoes and wash them later. I didn’t remove the handle from the bucket, so using this colander is very convenient.
Lids for bags
Another trouble that awaits housewives in the kitchen is the storage of bulk products. There, in the rented housing, there were no special conditions for storing bags of cereals, pasta and sugar, as well as containers. And tying and untying the bags was painful every time.
On the Internet I came across the idea of sealing bags using plastic bottles, or rather, their necks. I, of course, took advantage of this idea.
I cut off the neck of a plastic bottle. By the way, so as not to tear the bag too much, I burned the edges a little with a lighter. She pushed the edge of the bag into the neck from the inside and folded its edges outward. I tightened the cap with the package.
For pasta, beans and other larger bulk products than cereals, I use necks from five-liter canisters or milk bottles.
Containers made from plastic bottles
In general, plastic bottles are a universal material. I had an idea on how to make containers. The bags are, of course, good, but the jars still look neater. Well, once you have an idea, it needs to be brought to life. To create one container, I needed two 2 liter plastic bottles (from Coca-Cola). I cut off the bottom half of one about halfway. Lightly melted the edges. Firstly, they stopped being sharp, and secondly, they became tougher. From the second I cut off only the very bottom. The edges also melted. This is how a container with a lid turned out.
Knife holder
There is a sign - knives should not be left on the table. There was no sink in the room, as you understand. Therefore, I had to wash all the dishes and immediately take them “home”. I saw on the Internet that one manufacturer offers a universal knife holder made from a variety of polypropylene fibers.
Of course, I don’t have such good things. But there are wooden kebab sticks. They cost pennies. I took a jar lid and a clamp. I placed the sticks in the lid and tightened it on top. It turned out to be a very nice knife holder.
Cutlery organizer
I identified the knives, but the spoons and forks were still in the drawer. But they didn't stay there long. For the organizer I needed six tin cans, two plywood, screws, glue, paint and my husband’s hands. I came up with an idea - he did it, swearing through his teeth.
The jars were freed from the remains of the lid and the sharp edges were cleaned. The surface was painted with acrylic paint. Pieces of plywood were placed perpendicular to each other, glued and secured with self-tapping screws for reliability. The cans were placed on the bottom board, glued and secured with self-tapping screws for fastening strength. A handle was attached to the plywood in the middle.
Lid holder
When we moved into our own apartment, it became much easier - we have our own furniture, which means we can do whatever we want. And the first thing I asked my husband was to make holders for pot lids. I think every second housewife has a similar problem. We decided on ours quickly - we attached ordinary plastic towel hooks to the doors of the kitchen cabinets.
Hot stand
Hot coasters can be made from anything. I personally chose regular bottle caps for this purpose. Lightweight, durable and heat-resistant, they serve as an excellent stand for pots and pans. I glued the corks in a circle from the central one onto the “Titan”. I would like to use hot glue (it’s faster), but it melts when it’s hot.
Tray
My husband and I like to drink tea/coffee and watch TV at the same time. Sometimes it’s too lazy to constantly carry mugs and plates with sandwiches, so we often argue about who will go for the “ration” this time.My husband got tired of our arguments, and he made a tray from an ordinary board and two belts.
Tray-cutting board
Many housewives will understand me and, probably, even support me. When chopping vegetables, especially cabbage, you need free space on the board, and therefore you have to constantly shake the product into the container. I personally am tired of this. Taking my husband’s idea with a board-tray as a basis, I came up with the idea of making a tray-cutting board. On the one hand, I asked him to tighten the door handles. Now, when you flip it over, the tray becomes a raised cutting board that you can place utensils under. There are no more problems with moving shredded products into the container.
Shelves behind the refrigerator
In the kitchen you need to use every inch of space. Many people have it between the wall and the refrigerator - you can’t move the equipment close. We don’t have this, but I’m sharing the idea, as my friend’s husband did. He built a flat rack with shelves that conveniently hold small jars and flat containers. There are wheels attached to the bottom of the rack, so there are no problems pulling it out from behind the refrigerator.
