DIY vacuum cleaner filter
One of the main elements used in most modern models of vacuum cleaners are filters. To ensure proper operation of the equipment and extend its service life, manufacturers recommend periodically replacing parts. However, if you do not want to spend time and money purchasing new parts every time, you can make them yourself.
We will talk about ways to create filters at home in our article. The process will not take much time and will not require special skills.

What types of filters are there for vacuum cleaners?
Before you get started, you need to know the filter model built into your vacuum cleaner. There are various options:
- Membrane. Widely used in most models. It is very easy to implement and use.
- Water filter. Its operation is based on the principle of passing air through the system with dust and dirt particles. When passing through water, all foreign particles remain inside.
- Cyclone type. Based on the passage of air through a special cylindrical box. This method is significantly cheaper compared to previous versions.
Carefully inspect the equipment, find the required part and find out its type. You will need to make a similar option for the correct and high-quality operation of the vacuum cleaner.
Attention! If you are unable to determine the filter type by appearance, look for the necessary information in the documentation or on the manufacturer’s website.
How to make a filter for a vacuum cleaner at home
Once you have managed to find out the model of the built-in filter component, you can begin to create it. Depending on the chosen model, the plan and sequence of actions will differ, so we will consider several manufacturing options. Select the appropriate type and follow the instructions.
Prepare in advance the necessary tools and materials to complete the work. Also clear out your workspace and remove unnecessary items to create a comfortable environment.
Attention! The set of tools and materials may also differ depending on the selected model. Refer to the description in the instructions.

Now, for convenience, we will consider each model. First, let's talk about the most effective cleaning methods.
To replace this type of part, filters from the interior of a UAZ car may be suitable:
- Remove the old element, clean any traces of glue on the surfaces to be joined, and clean any remaining dirt with water.
- Using a special knife or scissors, cut a piece of canvas to a suitable size.
- Insert it into the new air purification system filter element.
- Use liquid nails or hot glue to join the edges of the pieces, then let the piece dry.
- Insert the structure into the equipment body in its original place, now you can work with the vacuum cleaner again.
Replace component parts periodically for better performance.
Water option
To create a water version you will need to perform the following manipulations:
- Install a separator into the housing to separate the air flow.
- Connect the pump to a vacuum tank with water, tightly closed with a lid.
- Place a small fan inside the tank to create pressure and push out purified air.
- Connect all the parts to each other and to the main tube of the vacuum cleaner.
This option has the best performance for humidifying and purifying the air from impurities. This will be especially useful for those who are prone to allergies.
Attention! You can also use hot glue or liquid nails for fastening.
Cyclone option
This option is the most difficult to implement.
To create it you will need to do the following:
- Take the oil filter from the car and place it in a large 5 gallon bucket or jar with a tight fitting lid.
- Make a hole in the cover to connect to the main hose in the vacuum cleaner.
- Make a hole on the side surface and thread a corrugated pipe into it to create an elbow.
- Fill all holes with caulk to prevent particles from falling out.
- Combine all structural elements with each other and attach to the vacuum cleaner.
By applying one of the methods in practice, you can make a filter for a vacuum cleaner with your own hands without a lot of time and effort.
