What to wash if you run out of powder

Imagine the situation: you urgently need to wash something, but the washing powder in the house is out. What to do in this case and is it possible to replace the powder with something? Let us turn to the people's, and not only the people's, experience.Soaking with mustard.

What can you use for washing instead of washing powder?

At home, the following remedies can help restore cleanliness and freshness to clothes:

  1. Toilet or laundry soap. It must be crushed before use. To do this, grate the soap and place it inside the drum of the washing machine, pouring it over the laundry.
  2. Soda Ash. This useful product has many uses in the household. It is especially suitable for washing cotton and linen. The product will not only remove dirt, but also bleach some fabric. To do this, it is enough to set the temperature to 50–70 degrees.
  3. Mustard powder. Place 50 grams of product into the drum. Wash at 40 degrees (with higher heat, mustard may lose its quality). After this procedure, the laundry will not only become clean, but will also smell fresh.
  4. Salt. To wash, fill a basin with water (measuring the amount) and place the clothes in it. Then wring out the laundry and put it aside for a while. Dissolve a sufficient amount of salt in water at the rate of one tablespoon per liter of water. Now place the soaked laundry in the solution and let it sit for an hour. Then rinse it in clean water.Wash by hand.

Reference! Before using soap, you need to determine the water hardness. To do this, dissolve a little soap shavings in a glass of hot water and wait until it cools completely. In hard water, soap will settle at the bottom in flakes, and a film will appear on top. You can soften the water by adding a couple of tablespoons of regular baking soda.

How to make liquid laundry detergent yourself

Home remedies can be used for continuous use. They are much more environmentally friendly than washing powder, are less aggressive and cause less damage to the washing machine. There are many popular compositions for washing.

The simplest one is made using laundry soap. In addition to this, you will need washing soda and borax. A mixture is made from them in the following proportions: 2 parts soap, 1 part soda and 1 part borax. For one wash cycle, 125 ml of this mixture is enough.

Attention! When using this method, add a glass of wine vinegar to the rinse water: it will help better rinse the soap out of your clothes.

Soap root solution (the raw materials for it can be prepared independently or purchased at the pharmacy).

What does soap root look like?

To wash one kilogram of dry laundry, you will need a decoction prepared from 0.5 liters of water and 50 grams of root. Soap root is poured with boiling water and infused for 24 hours. This solution is used only in fresh form.

Instead of soap root, you can use ground horse chestnut fruits (removing the brown shell from them).

To wash, pour hot water over the ground chestnuts.

Other means:

  1. Bean decoction, which is made from 200 grams of grains and a liter of water. You should strain it through cheesecloth into a basin.Mix with hot water until foam forms, and you can start washing.
  2. Wood ash. Our distant ancestors used this remedy. To wash the ash, wrap it in gauze and place it in water. Allow some time for the alkali to pass from the ash into the water, then remove the gauze - and you can start washing.

For this method, the ash must be free of impurities, that is, it must not contain combustion products of synthetics.
