9 Chinese kitchen products that are actually useless
Gadgets from China are designed to make our lives easier. At least that's how it's intended. However, the tools I have collected today seem to be designed to make the cook’s job more difficult. There are only nine of them, but this pile of plastic and metal can completely fill a trash can. So, I present the most useless kitchen appliances that are sold on Aliexpress.
The content of the article
Avocado knife
The plastic “blade” somehow copes with cutting the fruit into halves. An underwire hook can also accomplish its task (but rarely on the first try). When you have a slicer in your hands, you understand two things at once.
Firstly, the size of the device does not change, but avocados are different. Secondly, the instrument is blunt. In order to pick out even a little of the pulp with it, you need to make a titanic effort. And the mash that we manage to obtain does not at all resemble neat slices.
Garlic press
This curved plate with holes in the central part is made of good steel. In general, she has no more advantages. Of course, you can crush a clove with such a tool. But you should not expect that the resulting pulp will in any way resemble the soft puree that comes out of a conventional garlic press.On the contrary, the result obtained is most similar to hard sausages. And some of these pieces simply get stuck in the holes!
Knives for boiled corn
The most widespread are two versions of this device: one resembling a plane and one similar to a donut. Both of them are complemented by containers in which cut grains are collected. It looks quite comfortable, but appearances can be deceiving.
The planer failed the test because its blade goes deep into the cob, cutting off the grain along with the upper part of the hard core. The bagel showed two shortcomings at once. The first is a fixed size, which is why the device can only be used by choosing corn of suitable proportions. Second, emptying the container of grains can be difficult. The third drawback is common to both options: using an ordinary kitchen knife is much faster and more convenient.
Greenery scissors
A notable feature is the multiple cutting edges. It is thanks to this design that this miracle should chop greens “five times faster.” In practice, the result is an unsightly picture: the tool instantly becomes clogged. And the greens he chops (especially onions) look more like chewed than chopped.
Vegetable cutting tongs
It is assumed that with their help you can easily plan neat, identical slices. However, this is not the case either: it is very difficult to clamp and hold the vegetable in place due to the flexibility of the plastic. But even if you succeed, you still need to get the blade between the “combs”. And when this mission is completed, it turns out that the vegetable is not cut to the end. That is, the resulting slices need to be separated from each other if you reuse the knife.
Kiwi peeling device
The tool consists of two parts: a plastic “blade” and a convex structure made of bent wires fixed in a plastic ring. The latter are designed to separate the pulp from the peel.
Once again, this is an insidious fixed size... To successfully use the device, you need to carefully select fruits of the correct proportions. Another problem is that the wire only copes with the separation of overripe pulp. All attempts to peel the denser kiwis have failed because the skin breaks through and has to be removed by hand.
Citrus spray
The advertisement says: you just need to cut off the “butt” of the lemon, getting to the pulp, and screw this ingenious invention into it. Afterwards, you can season the salad with citrus juice by just pressing the spray button a few times. The advertising is silent about the fact that with the help of this device it is possible to squeeze out only a small part of the juice.
Pineapple knife
In principle, a good tool for obtaining neat circles of fruit pulp. The only serious problem is another fixed diameter of the cutting part.
If we talk about less significant shortcomings, then:
- a quarter of the pulp remains inside the peel and then needs to be scraped out by hand;
- the person using this tool must have sniper precision so as not to deviate from the central axis;
- The dimensions of the product, to put it mildly, are not the most convenient.
Cut protection
A ring worn on the middle finger and complemented by a special shield. Can be made of plastic, wood and metal. Designed to protect the hand that holds food while chopping it with a knife.
This device seriously limits the mobility of the hand, which is why cutting vegetables slows down significantly.And the plate also interferes with normal grip, so it’s almost impossible to carefully chop the greens.
