10 things that can be washed in a washing machine (and you didn’t know!)

It’s clear that most modern people have long gotten used to using a washing machine and wash things in it almost every day (or even every day!). Usually, labels can tell us a lot about proper washing, namely: choosing a mode, temperature, spin and drying tolerance. But there are household and household items that are also quite suitable for automatic washing, but for some reason we never thought about it. Today I will tell you about 10 things that you can safely throw in the drum, and then enjoy their purity and freshness.

Karemat

Travel mat, foam, yoga mat - this is also the name of this equipment, which, in fact, is used in many sports. Also remember: it mostly has direct contact with the human body (hence the sweat), and often lies on the floor (which is natural). Well, how can you not think about doing laundry?

Washing the mat in a machine is absolutely not prohibited. But you should choose a delicate mode, minimum spin, and for effective cleaning use a good powder with a stain remover. And don’t forget to turn off the automatic drying mode if you have it: this will definitely ruin the mat.

Backpacks and travel bags

If your backpack or bag is made of fabric, then feel free to throw it in the drum. It is advisable not to add anything else besides them: it’s better to wash them separately.

Special recommendations are to turn them inside out first and be sure to check all pockets for small items.

Toys

Perhaps this point will initially cause surprise, because who hasn’t washed soft toys in an automatic washing machine! But this is not about them at all. Plastic and rubber ones can also be cleaned by washing. Lego parts (both small and large), cars (not iron - it will break the drum!), foam rubber puzzles, jump ropes, dolls - there can be so many of them! - all this can be washed without risk.

We set the mode to delicate, it’s better to turn off the spin altogether, we choose a children’s powder - hypoallergenic.

Toys

Plastic containers

The situation here is the same as with toys. Think about it: you can clean lunchboxes in the dishwasher, right? Yes! How is a washing machine different from it? Absolutely nothing in terms of washing. Therefore, in order to protect yourself from bacteria and infections (and if you are too lazy to wash everything with your hands), such dishes can be cleaned in an automatic washing machine.

The mode is still the same - delicate without spinning.

Plastic containers

Silicone kitchen utensils

Silicone potholders, various molds, coasters and other products can be cleaned in a machine. Warm water (slightly above room temperature) is suitable for this, as it will easily overcome fat. Spin is either minimal or completely absent.

Silicone forms

Potholders

Often, for some reason, these kitchen textiles are left without proper care. But, as a rule, it always hangs in a visible place. We must not forget about its disinfection, because oven mitts also come into contact with food and raw products. When you send your towels for washing, don’t forget to take an oven mitt (what an interesting tautology).

You can wash such products at high temperatures - this will only make them better. But provided that they are made of cotton or linen. Synthetics are deformed.

Potholders

Cleaning accessories

Imagine: every day (or every two or three) you constantly clean up your house. You wash the floor, wipe the dust, clean the bathtub and sink, and do other things that require the use of certain tools and aids. This is a mop attachment, a microfiber cloth, a brush, various sponges and fabric-based napkins. Of course, we little think that they also need to be processed and washed, because they are an ideal habitat for germs and bacteria.

In fact, the best option is to clean the fixtures after each cleaning. A little worse is to do this activity at least once every one or two weeks.

Mode: normal. Pre-washing is acceptable to clean them better. They will also “survive” the spin cycle quite well. It is important not to forget to dry them thoroughly to avoid the appearance of mold and mildew.

Mop

Rug in the bathroom and hallway

For some reason, I’m sure that you are unlikely to wash small rugs as often as they require. But they also accumulate a lot of dirt and dust. If the product tag does not indicate that it is prohibited to wash it in a machine or that only dry cleaning is acceptable, then you can safely put the rug in the drum of the washing machine.

Bath mat

Shower curtain and bath accessories

Curtains made of fabric or plastic, which are found in almost every bathroom, can also (and even need to!) be cleaned using a washing machine. Select the delicate mode, it is better to turn off the spin, and set the temperature to medium. But if mold has already “settled” on the curtain (as often happens), then first soak it in a special product, and then treat it.

When you put the curtain in the drum, don’t forget to throw a washcloth in there: it also tends to get dirty, and therefore needs to be washed.

Shower curtain

Of course, when starting such an important event as washing, do not forget about separating the laundry. Dark - with dark, light - with light. And you probably shouldn’t wash your pajamas or (God forbid!) underwear together with the hallway rug. It was hardly necessary to mention such simple truths, but you never know...

Comments and feedback:

Well, this is already the bottom - washing floor rags in the machine... Well, if you have one specifically for this purpose...

1. If you wash a yoga mat, it will turn into something unknown. It does not need to be washed at all, just wipe with a damp cloth.
2. Wash plastic containers in the washing machine. For what? To wash away all the fat later. Author, if you didn’t know, then special tablets are used for PPM, preferably 3in1, which are capable of removing fat and oil. Powder can’t do that, but you can’t put a tablet in a washing machine.

As for toilet and bath mats. They can be washed, but from my experience, I don’t recommend them, as they then turn into an ordinary rag.

I don’t know what kind of rugs you have if they turn into a rag….
I wash my rugs in the washing machine periodically! Shouldn't you wash them by hand? 🙂

Backpacks, especially cheap ones, fall apart in the washing machine. And if there is a cardboard bottom amplifier, then it will immediately receive cranks

It’s easy to dirty the washing machine, but cleaning it up later is problematic. The water is never completely drained from the washing machine; this is a technically provided protection against drying out, so the remaining dirt from the rug and floor rag will then settle invisibly on underwear and other things. The inside of the tank (not to be confused with the drum) will be covered with a thick coating of lime-calmed dirt, which will serve as a reliable storage and breeding ground for mold.

Now America has been discovered... You can wash everything that is not made of paper, just then turn on the machine again, empty, and preferably at high temperature, rinsing with vinegar or lemon juice. And I almost always add 10 drops of 70% vinegar when washing.

I mean, we didn’t know? I also wash some shoes - slippers, Uggs, sneakers, even from nat. skin - everything is fine. I have a separate laundry basket of this kind, along with wash or dust rags, rugs, and dog blankets. And you? With your hands??? Naturally, after this wash I won’t throw in white bed sheets, towels or pajama panties. Then - curtains and bedspreads, then jeans and sweatshirts, etc., and then normal clothes and bedding. I clean the filter every three to five months. The machine endures for 5-7 years, then it begins to act up, and then the factory service life ends, regardless of whether you washed everything by hand or in a machine... Choose how you want to live these years)

I’ve been washing curtains, rags, and rugs for a long time now! But I don’t agree about containers: the powder is not intended for food containers.
