Connecting the boiler to the chimney

When organizing gas heating, special attention should be paid to the installation of the chimney and all its components. A well-made chimney will ensure not only the safe removal of all combustion products, but also the efficient operation of the boiler. Installation must be carried out in strict accordance with the approved design documentation and construction regulations. Of course, you can install the equipment yourself. However, you will still need to contact the institution that monitors gas supplies, which may also result in a significant fine, since in accordance with clause 6.2.10 SPiP 41-01-2008, installation, repair and maintenance of the gas pipeline and chimney must be carried out only employees of regulatory agencies.

Chimney requirements

DFor the efficient and safe removal of fuel combustion products, as well as the supply of air to a certain section of gas equipment, ensuring an effective combustion process, appropriate technical support is used. In appearance, it is a shaft with a pipe installed inside. The mounted structure must meet all established requirements:

1. The chimney shaft is installed in a vertical position. There should be no expansion or contraction in this case. Only a slight slope (up to 30 degrees) from the vertical and a deviation to the side of no more than 1 meter are allowed. It is also allowed to install up to three turns if their radius of curvature is equal to the diameter.
2. The material of manufacture must be non-flammable and non-melting, and the structure must be free of cracks and any other damage to prevent fire. The best option among the numerous assortment of types is the use of stainless steel pipes, since they are lightweight, easy to install and subsequently maintain, versatile and affordable.
3. The height and diameter of the pipe must fully comply with all established output parameters of gas equipment. This is necessary to ensure sufficient traction and efficient operation of the equipment.
4. Laying chimneys indoors is prohibited.
5. At the bottom of the connection of the outlet pipe from the boiler to the chimney, it is important to make a so-called pocket to clean out accumulated condensate.
6. If pipes are laid through rooms without heating, it is important to cover them with thermal insulation.

Chimney installation

Depending on the type of heat generator used, various smoke exhaust designs can be used. As for gas boilers equipped with a closed internal combustion chamber, a coaxial chimney is used here. When using condensing equipment in practice, the pipe slope is set towards the boiler, and the parapet - away from it. The design of the external and internal chimneys has few distinctive characteristics. It includes:

• adapter;
• outlet and chimney pipe;
• bends and special tees;
• inspection hole for pipe maintenance and cleaning of the smoke exhaust system;
• brackets for attaching structural elements and clamps.

Internal installation requires more detailed preparation and professional installation of the main structural elements, since even the slightest mistake can negatively affect the performance and your safety.

Depending on the type of installation of the heating equipment, the pipe may be led out to the side or directly. The list of chimney elements will depend on your choice.

First of all, an outlet pipe is installed, to which a tee is connected, indicating the beginning of installation of the vertical part of the chimney. Next, in accordance with the design documentation, vertical structural elements are built up.

An approximate assembly diagram is presented in the image below, but in each case there may be differences, so before installation it is important to prepare the project and coordinate it with the authorized regulatory authorities.

An external chimney is characterized by an easier installation process. To construct an attached chimney, sandwich pipes are used, attached to the wall surfaces using clamps and brackets. The structure itself is assembled before fastening it to the ground. The only drawback is the cost, which is slightly higher than when organizing an internal smoke exhaust system. The conical tip will ensure protection of the structure from the penetration of precipitation, debris and leaves from trees.

After correctly installing the chimney, the owner will only have to periodically perform maintenance, cleaning the chimney from accumulating smoke.

Connecting the boiler to the chimney

Before you start connecting the chimney to the heating equipment, it is important to first familiarize yourself with its technical and operational features. The sequence of work should be as follows:

• selection of all necessary elements for assembly and installation of the pipe;
• attaching the prepared structure to the gas boiler;
• isolation of all connections;
• checking the performance of the entire system as a whole.

Installation work is carried out in strict accordance with existing design documentation and construction regulations. Installation of pipes begins with preparing a hole in the wall, the size of which depends directly on the diameter of the pipe used. After the chimney is removed, the hole should be insulated to completely eliminate possible degradation of the building’s surface. From the outside, the structure is built up until the height of the pipe above the ridge is 5 meters. A tip is installed at the very top.

After this, the structural elements must be checked and protected from negative environmental influences. The joints are treated with anti-corrosion and fire-resistant agents. In country houses, the chimney outlet can be carried out not only through the wall, but also through the roof. This is a more labor-intensive process that requires high qualifications and sufficient skills of specialists to perform installation. All installation work must also be carried out in full accordance with the approved design documentation.
