DIY oil burner for a boiler

oil burnerOne of the serious environmental problems is the disposal of used motor oil. A huge amount of these products are consumed annually, and often improper disposal causes irreparable harm to the environment, and therefore many experts are busy finding a solution to this problem. One method is to use waste oil as fuel to operate heating systems.

Is it possible to make an oil burner with your own hands?

DIY oil burnerOne of the main components of any boiler is the burner. They all differ from each other in purpose and, accordingly, in the design and materials used for their manufacture. Some burners are used for diesel fuel, others for gas. There is also a separate class of burners designed to burn used motor oil.

The principle of operation of this device resembles the principle of operation of kerosene gas, that is, the treatment is heated to the evaporation temperature, then these vapors are burned out. The released thermal energy is used to heat the coolant.

Required materials and tools

materials for workThe design of the burner is not very complicated, and a person who has the skills to work with a welding machine and plumbing tools is able to make it himself.To make it you need to stock up with the following material:

  • steel pipes with a diameter of 20 and 50 mm;
  • steel sheet 4 mm thick;
  • steel rods dia. 8–10 mm;
  • expansion tank;
  • pipeline accessories;
  • heat-resistant sealant;
  • asbestos sheet.

welding machineTo obtain the necessary parts and assemble the finished product you will need specific tool:

  • welding machine, preferably an inverter;
  • angle decoding machine;
  • metalworking tools;
  • screwdriver or electric drill.

How to make an oil burner for a boiler with your own hands: a step-by-step guide

The order of assembly of the device is as follows:

  • A cylinder about 1000 mm long is made from a larger diameter pipe. A cylinder 250 mm long is made from a pipe of smaller diameter. Steel plates are cut from a sheet of steel. A 20 mm hole is cut out in one of the plates, in the second it is necessary to prepare a hole with a diameter equal to the chimney.

Important!

To make a cylinder you need to use a grinder.

  • At the next stage, the manufactured plates are welded to the ends of the cylinder. In this case, a plate with a large diameter hole is placed on top; a pipe of the appropriate diameter must be welded to the 20 mm hole. To ensure stability of the structure, legs are welded to the body. For this purpose, reinforcing bars are used. It is necessary to drill ventilation holes in the pipe where the small diameter pipe is located.

  • A chimney is installed in the upper part of the body.
  • A door is cut out in a larger diameter pipe using a grinder. It is cut out at the bottom of the cylinder.

ready product

In order to light the oil, you need to pour the waste through the door and bring the wick. This is how the most primitive design works. But it can be modified, that is, install a consumable tank for mining, complete it with a fuel pump and install a water circuit.
