How to remove a broken stem from a shovel
Every owner of a private house or cottage has a garden shovel. This is a simple, convenient and even irreplaceable tool, and also quite durable.
However, the shovel also has a weak point: if excessive force is applied, the handle may break close to the beginning of the metal part of the tool. It is quite difficult to knock out or remove its fragment in any other way, but it is possible. Below is a simple and hassle-free way to do this.

How to quickly and easily remove a broken cutting from a shovel
The tools and equipment you will need are a vice, a hammer, a self-tapping screw, and a drill. The process of removing the wooden part from the holder looks like this:
- first of all, we unscrew the rivets that hold the piece of wood in the holder;
- take a large self-tapping screw and screw it into the end of the broken handle;
- clamp the screw head in a vice;
- apply a block of wood to the shoulders of the metal part and tap it with a hammer - after a while you will be able to knock the bayonet off shovels from a fragment held in a vice.
If the wooden part breaks high enough, then you can not screw in the screw, but simply clamp the handle itself in a vice.
There is another so-called old-fashioned way to solve the problem - burn it out. You need to make a fire, sprinkle the protruding fragment with kerosene - this will make the process go faster - and put it on the fire.After some time, a thin firebrand will remain from the thick stick - it will fall out of the holder on its own.
Now it's time to equip the shovel with a new handle - it can be do it yourself. This will make a more reliable tool.
