Types of grinders

Every self-respecting man has an angle grinder in his household. Its popularity is due to its low cost and wide application possibilities. Most often, a grinder is used for processing metal products and workpieces, equipped with different attachments.

Angle grinder types and characteristics

On sale you can find devices with different types of drive: electric, gasoline, pneumatic. They, in turn, are divided into categories, which we will discuss below.

USHm network

Network

A common option for household needs. Budget model, price in stores starts from two thousand rubles. The advantage is the price of the device and independence from fuel. However, a wire that is pulled from the outlet during operation can create serious problems. The operator must always ensure that he does not get caught in the rotating disc.

Rechargeable

An excellent alternative to network devices. With a charged battery, you can work with an angle grinder anywhere. They do not depend on the availability of a source of electricity.

A significant disadvantage is the low power of the angle grinder. Manufacturers do this on purpose so that the device uses battery power economically. For continuous operation you will need a replaceable battery. It will charge while the second one is attached to the grinder.

Household

Small and low-power devices designed to work with saw blades with a diameter of 120–150 mm. As a rule, after working for a quarter of an hour, they need rest. Their cost varies greatly - from 2 to 15 thousand rubles.

Overheating may occur during prolonged operation at high power.

Professional

The power of the device exceeds 2.5 kW. They are designed for continuous, long-term operation. These are large models that are combined with nozzles with a diameter of 180 to 305 mm. They often have additional functions. Some even provide water supply to the work area.

One-handed

There is also a division of grinders based on the number of handles: one-handed and two-handed. The first models are compatible with discs with a diameter of up to 125 mm. The handle is removable and is fixed on two opposite sides of the body.

The model is far from being safe. After all, the device does not require one-handed operation.

one-handed

Two-handed

The main handle is located behind the body. The additional one is fixed in three positions. A convenient and high-quality model that ensures operator safety.

Gasoline

This is a device that is no longer an angle grinder, but still belongs to this category. Rather, these are sawing machines that can operate continuously and autonomously in the field. Can handle even the hardest materials.

Pneumatic

A device that requires connection to a compressor or pneumatic line. Powerful, work with heavy loads. The main feature is the increased spindle speed. The cost of the device is more than 30 thousand rubles. Can be used in rooms with high humidity.

Types of grinders by disc diameter

The depth of its immersion into the material depends on the size of the saw attachment.Manufacturers produce devices of different power, which are suitable for circles of a certain diameter.

  1. 115 mm. Designed for small grinding jobs and sharp thin materials (slate, thin-walled metal pipes, galvanization, etc.).
  2. 125 mm. A common option for household needs. It is used for cutting pipes, tiles, slate, galvanizing, polishing and cleaning surfaces.
  3. 150 mm. Suitable for cutting stone, steel or concrete products.
  4. 180 mm. Cuts tough materials. Widely used in construction work.
  5. 230 mm. Used in the construction of buildings and various structures. Easily copes with brick walls, boards and metal pipes.

The instructions for the device always indicate the maximum diameter of the nozzles. This means that smaller disks can be installed, but larger ones cannot.

Which grinder to choose

When purchasing an angle grinder, it is worth considering the nature of the intended work. If you have to grind or polish outdoors, a battery-powered or gasoline-powered grinder is a better choice. For household needs, choose inexpensive network devices. For people who are professional repairers, they need a durable tool. But its price is significantly higher.

When choosing a device in stores, tell the sales consultant all the important criteria. Based on what he hears, he will be able to select the appropriate tool and attachments for it.
