How to cut a pipe smoothly with a grinder
Working with an angle grinder at first glance seems simple and straightforward. But this is only for those who have never encountered sawing off a pipe. To do this smoothly, take into account the main nuances and tricks that are important in the work. In particular, preliminary marking plays a huge role, as well as holding the angle grinder in a certain position when working at high speeds.

How to cut a pipe evenly with a grinder
Looking at the material and the sander, especially if the latter is equipped with a large cutting wheel, you get the impression that everything is done quickly and the edge will be perfectly smooth. The operation seems clear, which misleads the masters.
Later, when connecting the pieces, it becomes clear that without markings the result is far from perfect.
Cutting a large profile pipe
This type of material has a square shape. Some people mistakenly believe that the drawing is made using a tape measure. By turning to such advice, you will ruin the profile pipe.
For a high-quality cut at 45°, we recommend arming yourself with a regular school ruler in the shape of an isosceles triangle. Marking is done according to the following scheme:
- A straight line is drawn perpendicular to the side of the product.
- The pipe is turned and oblique markings are applied to the adjacent edge at 45 degrees.
- Overturn again and draw a perpendicular.
- On the fourth face, lines are connected diagonally.
Next, they begin to work with the angle grinder. For convenience, we recommend using masking tape.
Cutting a round pipe
A serious problem for some craftsmen is cutting a cylindrical pipe at an angle of 45°. Once aligned, a perfect angle should form. It is extremely difficult to take measurements and outline the material with a tape measure. We recommend using the simple method.
An A4 sheet is folded diagonally into a triangle so that the top and bottom corners match perfectly. The excess is removed, and then the resulting triangle is folded in half again. Let's start drawing.
How to make markings for future cutting
To prepare well, there is a widely advertised method with paper. The sheet is simply wrapped around the pipe and the ends are connected so that they match perfectly. Next, draw lines using a pencil or bright marker.
By the way, by wrapping electrical tape or masking tape in the same way, you won’t have to draw anything. The cuts are simply made along the edge of the wrapper.
A similar method without paper is used for round profiles. Leaning them against the wall, place a marker at one point and scroll in a circle. The result is an even and accurate marking.
When sawing, the grinder is positioned perpendicular to the material you are working on. This means that the casing and nut of the angle grinder are in the same plane.
