What is a scanner
There are many different devices for processing documentation, one of them is a scanner. A unique device that is capable of converting documentation from paper format to digital. The devices have become widespread due to their irreplaceable functionality, which allows you to obtain an image of any object placed on the scanning surface.

What is
This is special equipment that is designed to obtain a digital image of an object placed in such a device. The process of creating a digital image is called scanning. It can be classified as a device for both input and output of information.
Device Description
Scanners come in a wide variety and differ mainly not only in functionality but also in the nature of the objects being processed. It usually looks like a box, with a glass surface under the lid.
Purpose, what it does
There are several most popular types of scanners. Each of them is needed for specific purposes:
- For photographic film - processes the negative of a photo or slide, and is intended for the image processing process. Typically used by people who deal with photography.
- Laser – designed for remote reading of special barcodes. Typically used in stores to analyze product labeling. This equipment also allows you to produce a 3-D projection of an object.Typically used both in regular stores and in research centers for modeling.
- Manual. This equipment is designed for manual scanning of small sections of text. Typically used for barcode analysis or scanning small documents.
- Widescreen. They have an impressive size and allow processing large volumes of documentation. Typically, wide-format scanning is used to digitize drawings or technical documentation of non-standard formats. It is used both in various educational institutions and in various high-tech industries.
- Book or planetary. This device performs scanning without contact with the object. Designed for digitizing documents that have historical value, and contact with a scanning device may damage their integrity. Used in museums or educational institutions.
Operating principle
A conventional scanner is a rectangular device that has a hinged lid with a glass surface. This is where the document is placed. A system of mirrors and an optical analyzer are located inside and provide a clear reading of the shape, color and content of the scanned documentation. Depending on the model, the quality of the resulting image may vary.
Information from the reading device is sent to the computer via a USB cable connected to the PC. The resulting image can be edited and saved using standard Windows tools.
REFERENCE! The choice of the quality of the resulting image affects not only the clarity of the image, but also the scanning speed. If detailed information is not a priority, then you should lower this parameter to make the scanning process faster.
