Is a router in an apartment harmful to health?

In the modern world, wifi routers have become an integral part of human life. They are installed in apartments, offices, schools, various kinds of institutions and even on the streets. This allows you to significantly expand the possibilities of accessing the network, but the question arises: is a router in an apartment harmful to health and how does it affect our well-being?

Harm to the router

Should we sound the alarm?

If you use a Wi-Fi router in your home, you've probably wondered more than once - does it harm your health and, if so, what harm does it do? This issue has been carefully studied by many scientists, and it is worth saying that studies have sometimes shown conflicting data. For example, medical professionals claim that harm from this device is present and extends to some human organs. These are the areas in which statistics were collected.

Along with this, there is other data that indicates that the negative impact from the router is minimal. Especially if you compare it with other devices found in literally every home. Among them we highlight:

  • Microwave. The level of impact is a hundred thousand times greater than the signal received from the router.
  • If you place 20 laptops and 2 routers nearby, they will create radiation equal to that emanating from a modern mobile gadget.

That is, everyone must decide for themselves how much this level of danger matters for him specifically and for his family.

Router

How does a person react to radio waves emanating from a router?

Scientists who conducted experiments aimed at identifying the degree of influence of routers on people primarily looked at the blood vessels of the brain. The test was carried out by Danish scientists on schoolchildren. Each of the children was given instructions to place a gadget with an activated Wi-Fi router.

When morning came, the necessary measurements were made. The results showed that most of them had vascular spasms and absent-mindedness.

Reference. This study cannot be considered 100% reliable, because only children acted as testers. The radiation could also be received from the gadget itself.

How do children react to such a convenient device in the house?

As already noted, children’s skulls are not yet fully formed, so they are more susceptible to the negative effects of the router. There was an official statement from WHO that the radiation from this device is really harmful to children. But it is not worth noting here that there are no confirmed arguments that would indicate harm, so this degree of harm can be classified as an unreasonable risk.

Male reproductive function

Scientists have also conducted research in this area. So, 2 sperm samples were taken and the level of active sperm was measured in each of them. One sample was placed near the router, and the second in a room where this device was not present.

The resulting data was:

  • In the sample that was far from the router, sperm activity decreased by 14%.
  • In the sample that was located next to a Wi-Fi transmitter, this percentage was 25. An additional study was also conducted in which the usual method of data transmission was already studied. No changes were noted in this case.

Metabolism is different

Wi-FiAnother experiment was conducted on Russian students and its results are very interesting. So, as in most experiments, two separate groups were taken. The experiment was carried out on one, the second was the control. The control group consisted of students who worked with paper media, and they were in a room in which the possibility of penetration of radio waves was excluded. The second group of students worked with the Internet and connected via Wi-Fi.

What was noted as a result of this experiment? The second group of students drank water many times more compared to the first, control group. This indicates that when Wi-Fi is running, the body's metabolism accelerates. We can even say that running a router in the house can even be useful, and not only because of the convenience of accessing the Internet from any device.

Is there anything that can be done?

If you want to somehow minimize the harm from your router, there are some steps you can take. You can act radically and completely abandon it, switch to wired Internet. If you are not ready to take this step, you can choose other options:

  • Harm from the routerPlace the device in some far corner, this will reduce the influence of the waves emanating from it.
  • Don't place it near you.
  • If we are talking about an office space, it would be better to choose one powerful device over several weaker ones.
  • If you do not use the receiver for a long time, it is better to turn it off.
  • When you go to rest, turn off the device, and turn it on again in the morning if you need it.

These fairly simple steps allow you to minimize your exposure to Wi-Fi.

Reference. If you are worried about harm from a Wi-Fi device, you should also think about the harm from other equipment in the house. It would also be better to turn it off when you are not using it.
