Vertical stripes when printing on a laser printer
Modern office equipment is sometimes quite finicky to use, and laser printers are no exception. One of the most common printing defects that indicate a problem with the device is the appearance of vertical stripes on the paper. This article will tell you what to do if streaks begin to appear on printed materials.

Why do streaks appear when printing on a laser printer?
There are a number of reasons why a printing device may leave streaks on documents. Among them:
- There is not enough toner.
- Problems with the laser.
- Photodrum defects.
- Magnetic shaft defects.
- Poor contact between the photoconductor and the magnetic shaft.
- Incorrectly installed metering blade.
- Lack of seal in the cartridge.
- Overflow of the waste bin.
- Failure of the charging roller.
IMPORTANT! If the printer has recently been refilled with new toner, the appearance of streaks when printing may be due to poor quality of the powder or improper refilling.
How to remove vertical stripes when printing
Problems with the laser or running out of ink are indicated by the appearance of white lines on printed pages. In the case of a lack of ink, the solution to the problem is simple - you need to refill the cartridge. It is worse if the normal functioning of the laser is disrupted. For proper and long-term operation, experts strongly recommend monitoring the condition of the device by regularly wiping the scanner mirror with a clean and smooth cloth.
Damage to the photodrum may be indicated by gray-black stripes in a wavy shape, usually located along the edges of the sheet. Damage to the photodrum is the result of ordinary wear and tear during long-term use.
IMPORTANT! The photodrum can be damaged due to improper use of the device, frequent disassembly and poor-quality repair work.
An acceptable solution to this problem is to replace the part with a new one.
The same applies to the magnetic shaft: it is impossible to repair this part and any service center, if defects are detected, will immediately offer to replace it. The first sign of wear on the magnetic roller is a gray background of the document and horizontal dark lines on it.
If one vertical white stripe appears across the entire page on a printed document, the cause of the failure may be a malfunction of the dispensing blade. The blade itself is a part of the cartridge. It is responsible for the amount of toner that will fall on the magnetic roller.
Blade malfunctions in most cases are associated with the use of low quality paper. Flints of such paper quickly stick to the dispensing blade, and the magnetic roller in the place where they accumulate can no longer evenly pick up paint. In order to return the parts to functionality, it is necessary to thoroughly wipe its surface with alcohol.
If the document is printed with black stripes across it, then the reason for this may be poor contact between the magnetic shaft and the photodrum. Contact deteriorates due to dirt adhering to the parts. In this case, cleaning the cartridge will help solve the problem.
Stripes of dashes and spots located vertically along the entire length of the page may indicate toner spillage and can be easily eliminated by cleaning the cartridge waste chamber.
