How to find out the printer's IP address
Modern technical devices are a complex interconnected system, each element of which performs its own specific task. To organize the process, special programs have been created that regulate the execution of various tasks. In order to communicate with a specific type of equipment, you need to know exactly its location in a huge database and system. For this purpose, there are assigned addresses for each communication channel.
Sometimes users need to find out the exact address and obtain information about related equipment.
For beginners, this task may seem difficult, but it is quite simple to complete. There are several possible ways to recognize data about a specific device. In our article we will tell you more about all the methods. Let's look at identifying a communication channel for printers.

How to find out the IP address of your printer?
First, let's look at the method of recognizing one's own equipment in the Windows operating system. There are several options to do this. Before you begin, turn on the device and computer, connect the new equipment to the system for synchronization, then follow one of the methods described below:
- The first option is to use the main menu and display properties and information about the printer. To do this, go to the menu by pressing the “Start” key, then find the line that says “devices and printers.” Go to this section, from the proposed list, select the name of the connected equipment and right-click on it and open the “properties” item. Select the "general" category in the dialog box that opens and look at "location" to determine the address.
- If you connect and access the network using a router, the way you determine the communication channel will depend on it. To do this, go to the main menu of your computer, and then go to the router settings. There you need to find the line with the name of your home network and go to the “devices” item. After this, the program will give you a list of connected equipment. From the proposed list, find the required line and find out information about the location of printers on the network. Rewrite or remember the current IP address.
- If the previous options did not help you, or the proposed path is difficult, you can use another method. To do this, you will need a working printer and pairing with a computer to print. Turn on all equipment and replenish paper supplies in the appropriate compartment. Go to the printer menu, find “properties” and select “general”. Then select the test print function. The output sheet should display the status of the equipment and its location in several places. Carefully examine the sheet and find the information that interests you.
- Another option that few people know about is using a text editor. Since most of them have the ability to output documents to a printed version of the page, you can use this to solve your problem.Just open the editor, paste any piece of text or image there. Exit to the print menu and go to the “port” line. There you can find information about the state of the equipment, its settings, parameters and find out the address in the network communication channel.
- Usually, the purchased equipment comes with an installation CD with a program for monitoring the printing status. If it is not available, you can download the program from the Internet from an official source. Install the software, check the user agreement box. Launch the application and go to the main menu, which will display various parameters and options. Click on any button and you will receive an answer to your question. This option is perhaps the most difficult of all. But if you have already installed the software in advance, then the manipulations performed will not take much time and will not be difficult.
- There is another way by using an application specially designed for this purpose. You can install a special program to recognize the location of devices connected to the network. The most convenient to use (the Russian interface allows for quick page navigation) is the IPScan program. After installing and starting the systems, the program itself will launch a scanner to detect the connection. After this, a list of associated equipment will appear, including your printer.
Use any of the methods available to you and find out the network address of the equipment. Each of the proposed methods will not take much of your time, and if you follow the instructions exactly, it will produce the desired result.
IMPORTANT: To carry out the process of searching and recognizing an IP address, all technical means must work properly and have access to the Internet.
You should also monitor the status of the antivirus to prevent malware and virus applications from entering the system, otherwise access to information may be blocked or the system will produce erroneous data.
How to find out the IP address of someone else's printer?
In order to find out someone else's data, you just need to gain access to the equipment. Once you are able to log in from another computer, you can find out the address. The principle of performing all manipulations will be the same for any printer. Try one of the methods described above. Try until you get the information you want.
If you do not have access to a computer, you can install special programs and applications that scan other systems. You can find them on the Internet and upload them to the system. After that, follow the on-screen prompts to find out the address of the printer you are interested in.
In addition, it will be useful to know the name under which the device is registered on the network. Sometimes you need to enter a name to gain access. To find out how the printer is recorded, you must follow these steps:
- Turn on your computer and go to the main menu. Select "Printers and Scanners" in the "Devices" section.
- From the proposed list of equipment, in the dialog box that opens, select the device you are interested in.
- Right-click on its image or caption.
- From the list of possible actions, select “manage” or “properties”. Any of these options will take you to the main menu of the printer and show information about it.
- Open the "general" tab. In the corresponding window with a signature, the network name of the printer will be displayed, under which it can be identified on the Internet.
To gain access, a name or address is requested; for convenience, you can use the method described above and enter the name.
What is the printer's IP?
If you have encountered this problem, then you probably know the uses of this parameter. However, if you have never encountered such a task and the need to find a location is unfamiliar to you, we suggest finding out the main purpose of an IP address:
- Quick orientation in the system and user recognition.
- Possibility of expanded equipment capabilities.
- Easy pairing with other devices and network users.
- Creation of a local communication node protected by encryption.
- The ability to create your own server or invite a user to interact with it.
- When working with another device, an IP may be requested to provide access and work in the system.
- It is also useful to know the location for quick adjustments and repairs in the event of a system failure.
IMPORTANT: In general, IPA (Internet Protocol Address) stands for Internet communications protocol address or location. Its main purpose is to recognize (identify) devices connected via various communication channels.
If you need to change the network connection protocol, you can easily do this using the instructions:
- Go to “devices and printers” as described above. Select the equipment type.
- After that, right-click to open properties.
- Select the "ports" tab and then go to port settings.
- From the drop-down list, select the desired protocol and click on it.
- Change the address in the title line and save the changes.
