Printer Cleaning Guidelines
To clean the printer and avoid damaging its components, follow these recommendations:
- Do not use flammable solvents or aerosols in the process. This will result in fire or electric shock.
- Do not touch the toner fusing unit. He is hot. This may result in burns and poor print quality.
- Do not touch the transport roller. Otherwise, it will be damaged and the print quality will be impaired.
- Do not bring the toner to your face or breathe in its fumes. This is life-threatening.
- Before starting work, disconnect the printer from the network. Otherwise, a fire or electric shock may occur.
- When cleaning the registration roller and paper take-up mechanism, do not press on the surface of the actuator. It may break.
- Do not apply pressure to all rollers due to possible loss of print quality.
- Do not touch the tape with gloves or bare hands and do not expose it to light exceeding 800 lux for 2 minutes. This will cause immediate damage to its structure and damage to the printer.
- Do not touch the charging roller during the process, and do not use volatile liquids near its surface.
- Do not use harsh abrasives to clean dustproof glass.
- Do not wash the print head with ethyl alcohol or acid solutions. Despite their good effect, the nozzles in the device will not last long.
- Use only special printer cleaners for the process. They are sold in every electronics store.
Advice! If you do not have proper experience working with the printer and knowledge of its structure, you should entrust the work of cleaning its components to professionals. They will service the printer competently and quickly.
What you need for cleaning
To clean the print head of any printer, you should take:
- plastic utensils (disposable plate or food container);
- a thick rag or gauze;
- special set (sold in any electronics stores).
To clean other surfaces, you need to take a medical syringe, washing liquid and medical gloves. To remove dust, you need a simple brush or a slightly wet disposable cloth. You will also need to wear things that you won’t mind throwing away if they get stained, or an apron.
If the printer prints poorly, it doesn’t matter whether it’s inkjet or laser, you need to do a deep cleaning.
How to clean a printer: step by step
To clean the printer, you need to carry out a number of simple but time-consuming tasks:
- First, you need to unplug the printer, lift the lid and completely clean the rollers of dust using a dry cloth.
- Then remove the toner cartridge and wipe it with a disposable cloth.
- Then you should remove the dust-protecting glass and wipe it with a special cleaner and wipe it dry with a paper napkin.
- The last step will be to return all components to their place in the order in which they were removed.
To clean the printing device, you need to lay a bandage in several layers or cotton cloth on the bottom of the prepared plastic container, and then pour in the washing liquid. Then you should remove the print head from the switched off printer and place it in a container with liquid with the ink compartments facing down. Place a tube on the receiving fittings and first remove the gaskets. After removing the gaskets, rinse them well in liquid and dry. Then pour liquid into the tubes and leave them to wash for several hours. If necessary, it is worth adding a solution to them.
If the liquid in the tubes does not evaporate, it means they are very dirty and this process requires a little more time. You can try to reduce the solution by force. To do this, take a syringe and draw out the liquid. In order not to break the tubes, you need to perform this action as carefully as possible.
To drain dirty liquid from a plastic container, you need to remove the bandage and repeat the procedure of filling the container with liquid and lowering the printing device into it. The flushing steps must be performed until the substance is completely removed from the device. After work, you should dry everything for a couple of hours, fill in new ink, insert it into the right places and check the print.
Adviсe:
- To carry out this process outside, you should wipe it with a damp cloth.
- Any microvacuum cleaner with a thin attachment will be suitable for the compressor.
- To remove dust and powder, use cotton swabs or newspaper. It is important to wear a respirator and latex gloves.
How to clean a dry printer
To clean a dry printer, you will first need to completely rid it of dust using appropriate disposable wipes and brushes, and also remove the print head and restore it in the following ways:
- Soaking in distilled water for 48 hours;
- Boil in boiling water for 1-2 minutes, repeating the procedure every hour until the desired effect is obtained;
- Steam for 2-4 hours until the device is completely empty of old dried paints;
- By soaking under streams of hot water until the inks of the printing mechanism are completely softened and washed out;
- Clean the cartridge using dishwashing detergent and water.
The latter method allows you to quickly clean the color cartridge. In previous cases, you can clean the mechanism only for normal printing.
In general, the printer should be cleaned regularly according to the rules given above. This will not only maintain print quality, but also extend the life of the device. If you do not have the necessary knowledge and skills to use the printer, you should leave the job of cleaning it in the hands of professionals.
