Features of printer ink
There are several types of modern printers:
- jet;
- laser;
- LED;
- matrix;
- 3D printers.
Inkjet printers are most often used to print images and photographs. Dot matrix printers are outdated and rarely used these days.
The most popular are laser and inkjet office equipment.. It is the ink used in these printers that causes ink stains to appear on skin and clothing.
The composition of the ink determines how to remove stains from the surface of your hands.
Main components of ink:
- water;
- coloring pigment or synthetic dye;
- solvent;
- corrosion inhibitors;
- Surfactants (surfactants);
- polymers;
- humidifier;
- preservatives.
If the paint contains a synthetic dye, you don’t have to worry - the ink will be washed off with water, since the dye dissolves in water.
If pigment was used in the production of ink, which is microscopic particles that penetrate into paper or leather, then such stains are more difficult to remove. As a rule, they can be reduced using alkali.
How and with what to wash printer ink: using improvised means
Assess the degree of contamination of your palms and take active action.
IMPORTANT! Do not dry your hands with a napkin or towel. This will lead to deeper penetration of the paint into the layers of the skin.
Method 1:
- Prepare a container with water at room temperature; it is better to use laundry soap with a high alkali content, a brush or pumice stone.
- Wash your hands thoroughly in water, changing it to clean water several times. You will see how much ink will wash off your hands.
- Lather your hands with a bar of soap and scrub the stained areas with a brush or pumice stone.
- Rinse off with warm water.
After these manipulations, faded ink marks may remain on your hands.
Method 2:
- Take ready-made citric acid in a bag. If you don’t find one, you can squeeze the juice of natural lemon.
- Dissolve citric acid in water at room temperature.
- Soak a cotton pad in the solution.
- Apply to contaminated areas and wait a couple of minutes.
- Rinse off and evaluate the result.
ATTENTION! Citric acid can be replaced with hydrogen peroxide. The same effect should be expected from its use.
Method 3:
Try using a body scrub. It contains fine particles that exfoliate dead skin particles, removing the top layer.
If the above methods do not help to cope with the problem, you can try more radical measures.
Method 4:
- Take 100% alcohol or white spirit. Acetone will also work.
- Apply the liquid to a cotton pad and wipe your fingers.
- Quickly wash the solvent off your hands.
ATTENTION! This product should be used carefully and with caution. Do not leave such aggressive liquids on the skin for a long time.
In addition to the above tips, it is also recommended to use tomato juice or badyagi tincture.
Using professional formulations to clean hands
For those who, due to the specifics of their work, are forced to frequently change printer cartridges, there are special products developed by modern manufacturers for removing ink from any surface:
- Lotion from Permatex “Fast Orange”.
- Soap "Fast Orange".
- A special cleaner from the manufacturer Flexographic “Strong and safe”, created specifically for removing stains from printing ink.
If all of the above methods did not bring one hundred percent results, do not be discouraged. After a certain amount of time, the skin on your hands will be renewed and the spots will disappear without a trace.
To avoid the problem of ink contaminating your hands, use disposable rubber gloves when replacing an empty cartridge with a new one.
