Hibernation mode on a laptop
Hibernation mode is a state of the laptop when it consumes almost no energy. This feature was specially made for mobile PCs running on battery power. Difference between modes:
- If the device turns on the “sleep” mode, then all active windows and applications are stored in the PC’s RAM, and power consumption will only decrease.
- If hibernation is used, then data is not saved in RAM, but the hard drive is used, and the laptop is completely turned off.
Reference! Thus, hibernation, among other means of saving energy, is considered the best. And experts advise using this particular function if the device will be inactive for a long time, and then you need to quickly (within a minute) bring the laptop into working position with active windows and programs that were open before.
How to exit hibernation mode on a laptop: methods
To exit hibernation, you must do the following:
- First of all, you can try to restore the work in any way, for example, by clicking the mouse button. If this action does not produce results, use the Esc button to return to the previous mode.
- Then try the Ctrl+Alt+Delete button combination. In this menu, you need to click on “Restart the computer”, so the system will return to normal. The Power button on the keyboard can also trigger this action if it is set to do so. There is no need to worry about programs and open windows in which work was done; the memory dump is saved in a separate file, so everything will be restored when the operating system starts.
It is not recommended to use the “standby” or “sleep” function if difficulties arise when exiting hibernation. Right-click on an empty field of the desktop and click “Properties”.
In the menu that appears, find the “Screensaver” item and select the “Power” tab. Go to “Sleep Mode” and uncheck the box next to “Allow Sleep Mode”.
Why can't I wake up from hibernation mode?
Sleep mode is activated when a person, having finished working with a mobile PC, does not bother “exiting Windows”, but simply slams the laptop shut.
Comfortable. When the lid is opened, the OS is not loaded completely again, but starts from the moment the lid is closed. This saves time and battery power.
But the device may not come out of hibernation. What to do in this case:
- To begin, press any key on the keyboard or connect some external device via a USB connector. Perhaps this will help you come out of hibernation;
- The battery is probably discharged - connect the charger to the laptop, wait a certain time until the battery charges and press “Power”;
- a failure occurred while exiting hibernation - with the battery charged, press and hold the “power” key for approximately 3-4 seconds - this standard action causes Windows to restart;
- there is probably a problem with the laptop settings (most often happens in older models) - remove the battery from the device, install it back, the PC may start to boot.
If the above steps did not help, then a serious breakdown has occurred and it is best to seek the services of an experienced specialist.
