How to connect laptop to laptop

Connecting laptops to each other is necessary for various purposes: transferring files or documents, playing games over a local network, controlling a laptop remotely. There are several ways to complete the process, which can be wired or wireless. Each user chooses the method that suits him. To create a full-fledged local network, LAN or Wi-Fi technology is used.

How to connect via HDMI

HDMI connectionThe fact is that on laptops the HDMI connector is needed to output data, but not to receive it. Connecting them via HDMI ports is pointless. Thus, a digital output connection is used to transmit only digital image or sound to an external device that is designed for this purpose. For example, a picture from a laptop monitor can be displayed on a TV.

Features of Wi-Fi connection

Wi-Fi connectionThe simplest and most common way to connect two laptops is to use wireless communication technology using a Wi-Fi module.

IMPORTANT! Both devices must have a network adapter installed and activated. This can be done in hardware or software, depending on the laptop model.

The Microsoft operating system provides for the creation of a “point-to-point” operating mode, so you can connect them in a few clicks:

  1. Through the control panel, go to the “Networks and Internet” section, then to the “Network and Sharing Center”.
  2. Select wireless network management, then in the window that appears, click on the “Add” button.
  3. Create a computer-to-computer network, enter the necessary data: name, encryption type and password.
  4. Then click on “Next” and confirm the action with the “Finish” button.

To allow network sharing, you must check all the permissions in the “Advanced sharing options” section. This connection method will allow you to transfer files between devices, as well as use one access point to access the Internet.

We use the LAN port

How to connect laptop to laptop via LAN portUsing connectors for a network cable is suitable in cases where one of the laptops does not have a wireless module or it is faulty. Also, if the device's WiFi adapter is active and used to access the Internet.

Each laptop is equipped with a network card with special connectors for crossovers. To connect them, you need to purchase a cable and use it to connect the devices. After this, you need to make software network settings on both computers. To do this we do the following:

  1. We go into the settings to change the adapter parameters through the control panel or call the command line using the Win and R key combination. Enter “ncpa.cpl” and click OK.
  2. Select a local network connection in the network settings. Then call the context menu by right-clicking. Go to properties, in the “Network” tab, click on the TCP/IPv4 protocol and click on “Properties”.

Then you need to register the addresses on both laptops. In the protocol settings of the first device we write:

  • IP address 192.168.1.1.
  • Subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

On the second laptop we register the same mask address, in the IP address we change only the last digit to 2.After clicking the OK button, two laptops will be connected to exchange information. They will be available in the network environment using IP addresses.
