How to disable bluetooth on a laptop

If necessary, or simply to extend the battery life of your mobile computer, you can turn off the Bluetooth module. The Bluetooth module, like any other device, consumes battery power, which can be significantly saved.

Disabling Bluetooth

The Bluetooth wireless connection option is a useful feature for a laptop when connecting to phones or related devices, for example: a mouse, headphones, speakers, keyboard. This way you can transfer almost any files very quickly, without installing any software. All laptops are equipped with a Bluetooth connection to increase the capabilities of the device.

But this function is not used often, taking this into account, in the Windows operating system this option is not a priority. Therefore, it is not immediately possible to immediately find and disable/enable Bluetooth on a laptop. The settings do not depend on the laptop model, it depends on the installed OS.

Windows 7

If the laptop is running Windows 7, then Bluetooth is turned on/off using the factory program, or using the icon located on the message panel. If you right-click on the icon, settings will appear taking into account the type of module and installed drivers. We must not forget about the Wireless switch, it must be active, but it is not always on the laptop.

If you see that the icon on the panel is not in the messages, but the drivers are installed and Bluetooth is available, then you need to act differently. The first method is as follows:

• go to the management menu, click on the “Devices and Printers” icon;
• using the right mouse button, click on the “Bluetooth Adapter” item (this item may have a different name);
• If this menu exists, then after opening you need to click on “Bluetooth Settings”. Here you can customize the image of the icon on the panel, turn off visibility for other gadgets and edit other parameters;
• if this menu is not there, you can configure Bluetooth by adding this connection module by clicking “Add device”. The laptop will find the equipment on its own.

If you can’t disable it this way, you can try the following option:

• right-click on the icon that shows the Internet connection on the laptop keyboard, then you need to go to the “Control Center”;
• in the list of tasks on the panel, click “Changes parameters”;
• then right-click “Bluetooth Network Connection” again and select “Properties”. If this tab is missing, then there may be driver problems on the laptop;
• in “Properties” you need to find “Bluetooth”, then enter “Options”. Here you can take the necessary actions.

Attention! Do not forget that without correctly installed drivers, settings will not be possible. The software is either included with the laptop or downloaded from the website.

Windows 10

Making wireless connection settings in Windows 10 is very simple. The manufacturer of the product took into account all the minor shortcomings of previous operating systems and changed the interface, which has become much more convenient. The enable/disable keys are located on several panels.Don't forget, if the "Flight" mode is set, the connection will automatically turn off.

To enable it, you need to click on the “Notification Center” icon. A panel will open where you need to find and click the “Bluetooth” button. The key will light blue, indicating that the wireless connection is enabled. To turn it off, you need to press the same key.

But the settings are not finished there. One way or another, you need to configure connections, view available equipment, etc. To do this, right-click on the “Bluetooth” button on the panel, and then select “Go to...”. A new menu will appear in which the found equipment is indicated in the form of a list.

In the same menu there is another key: turn Bluetooth on/off. The settings themselves are intuitive, since there are few of them. When you select the More Options menu, you can see additional settings.

What to do if Bluetooth does not turn off

The situation on how to disable Bluetooth on various operating systems is clear. But you need to remember the main thing: the wireless device will work correctly with installed factory drivers downloaded from the laptop manufacturer’s website.

Also, users constantly encounter incorrect operation of the module after reinstalling Windows. At the same time, they try to install either old drivers or use those offered by the system. It is not recommended to do this. It is this failure to meet the requirements and incompatibility of equipment that is the main reason for the module’s malfunction or the impossibility of turning it on/off.
