Why are there no sounds in my headphones on my computer?
If there is no sound in the headphones, there is no need to throw them against the wall or run to the store for new ones. To get started, just check the sound level settings on the headphones themselves and on the playback device. It may very well be that everything there is at zero. With headphones it's simple. Modern models have a special regulator on the wire or on one of the “ears”. Check that the wheel is turned all the way towards the thick end of the arrow.

Checking the sound volume in headphones and on PC
- To check your sound settings, you need to find the speaker icon in the lower right corner.
- If you double-click on it with the mouse, a panel with a volume control will open. At the bottom of this panel there is a Mixer button. Check that all controls are set to maximum.
- After this procedure, the sound will play at the level that you personally set.
Sound error on PC
It often happens that the computer thinks there is sound, but in fact there is none. This is caused by a failure of system services. You can fix this by running the Audio Troubleshooter.
Also, be sure to check out another option that is often forgotten. In the Control Panel, launch Administrative Tools. In the window that opens, find the “Services” item.
Then you need to find Windows Audio among the entire list of services.
If you select this service with the mouse, you will be able to stop or restart it. Click Reboot. As a rule, after this the sound appears.
Need to update drivers
Often there is no sound because the drivers are faulty or simply outdated. For this reason, extraneous noise or complete absence of sound may occur. In this situation, you can try to roll back the system to an earlier state when the sound was still working normally. Or install more recent, compatible drivers, even if they are not native.
- You can do it a little easier. It is enough to completely remove the device drivers.
- Then in the Control Panel, open “Device Manager” and click the “Update Configuration” button. The operating system will try to automatically select the most suitable driver version.
- If the required driver is not found, you must install it manually. Find the version you need on the manufacturer's website and download. If your audio card is integrated into the motherboard, then look on the website of the manufacturer of this board.
- Be sure to respect the system capacity. To ensure that the software is installed from scratch and not updated, remove the audio card from the system in advance through the “Device Manager”.
- If the existing driver is for an earlier version of the operating system, try installing it in compatibility mode.
Headphone malfunction
If you determine that the sound source is working properly, it turns out that the fault lies in the headphones; the PC does not see them. To be sure of this, just connect another device (headphones or speakers) to the computer or connect the headphones themselves to another device.
All headphone failures can be divided into three categories:
- Plug failure;
- violation of cable integrity;
- speaker failure.
Repairing the cable is quite simple. Failures of this type are rare and at the same time they are obvious. After all, as a rule, the cable breaks along with the protective sheath.
Although sometimes there are internal ruptures when the outer shell remains intact. To check this, turn on the headphones and methodically bend the cable until you catch at least some hint of sound.
When repairing cables, we adhere to the following technology:
- We cut the cable at the break point;
- We clean the cut areas from insulation;
- we twist the wires and solder them;
- We separate each channel from each other, wrap the junction with insulating tape, and put a heat-shrinkable tube on top and heat it.
If the cable itself is working properly, then it is likely that the cable does not fit well to the plug. The old plug can be replaced with a new one, or the wires can be disassembled and strengthened. As described earlier, we will cut the wire and strip the insulation. Solder the ends to the plug contacts. Short plates are responsible for the channels, and long plates are responsible for the ground.
If the speakers in your headphones fail, there is only one thing left to do: buy new headphones. Why? Repairing speakers is almost impossible.
