Why doesn't the music center read discs?

When you try to load a disc, the music equipment displays the message “No disk” or “Error”. We will talk about the sources and methods of eliminating this problem in our article.

The main reasons why the music center does not read discs

Why doesn't the music center read discs?Malfunctions are divided into two types:

  • the problem is related to the disks,
  • failure in the music device.

The first option means a problem with the reproduced products: mechanical damage or the wrong format.

In the second case, possible sources:

  • random freezing,
  • lens dusting,
  • failure of the reading head or spindle drive, calibration error, etc.

ON A NOTE. The service life of the laser unit averages from 3 to 5 years, depending on the intensity of use.

How to fix problems

Why doesn't the music center read discs? Before inspecting the internal components of the device, try removing the disc, then completely turning off the power to the player, turning it on again, and reloading the floppy disk. These manipulations will eliminate random freezes during startup.

Check the discs for visible damage, scratches on the tracks, and make sure that their surfaces are not curved. If you used them for the first time, check that the format complies with the standards read by the equipment.

Next, you will need to remove dust and deposits from the laser lens - it is sensitive to the ingress of foreign particles.

REFERENCE.Minor stains on the drive can be removed by the cleaning disc. In specialized stores you can find models with three levels of cleaning due to special bristles onto which washing liquid is applied. We do not recommend buying them on the market - there is a risk of buying a low-quality product that will damage the entire optical unit.

If the cleaning product does not help, move on to the manual method (if you are confident in your abilities). Here's what to do:

  1. Prepare a syringe, cotton wool (or cotton swabs - not ear swabs, but those made from thin matches and cotton swabs), glass cleaner, and a magnifying glass.
  2. We turn off the device completely, then proceed according to the diagram of your music center (if it doesn’t exist, you can download it on the Internet): remove the top cover of the case so that you can see the disk drive and laser lens.
  3. Checking the condition of the lens. In working condition it will be shiny, with a bluish tint. There should be no dust, litter, or plaque.

ATTENTION. We act carefully, since the element is located on a fragile drive. The cleaning product should not contain ethyl alcohol, as it destroys plastic surfaces.

Use a syringe to blow off small dirt. Squeeze a few drops of the product into a container and dip a cotton swab so that no flakes form. We process the lens with slow movements, applying only light pressure, and if necessary, change the cotton swabs.

ON A NOTE. When cleaning, the lens will move springily in different directions, this is normal, the main thing is not to press too hard.

After each wash, take a magnifying glass and check for contamination. We continue the process until the perfect shine. We leave the device to dry and then assemble it. According to user reviews, this method has proven its effectiveness.

If all the manipulations did not lead to the desired result, then the problem is in the laser unit. You need to contact a repair shop, where they will diagnose and replace the failed element.

In our article, we looked at the reasons why the device does not see disks and how to fix it. We hope our information helped you restore the operation of your music equipment.
