What is the diagonal of a monitor measured in?

One of the main criteria for TVs that buyers primarily focus on is screen diagonal. Let's consider how you can find out what the diagonal of your equipment is. Since the monitor is made in the form of a rectangle, its diagonal is measured from one corner to the other opposite it.

How is the parameter measured - monitor diagonal? 

Are you wondering how you can measure the diagonal of a monitor? This parameter is indicated exclusively in inches. This is a unit of length. Undoubtedly, it would be much easier to determine the size in centimeters, because it is clearer and more familiar, but it is as it is. You yourself can convert the value into a unit of measurement convenient for you. If you convert one inch to centimeters, you get a value of 2.54.

The most common screen parameters are:  

• If we are talking about a computer screen, these are 17”, 19”, 21” and 23”. 
• The following sizes are common for TVs: 32”, 43”, 49”, 50”, also 55” and 65”. 
• Manufacturers produce laptop monitors with the following parameters: 13.3”, 15.6”, 17”, 19”. 

NOTE. There is a certain marketing ploy that is unpleasant for the buyer, when one value parameter is indicated on the label, and next to it, in small print, an adjustment is made to a smaller extent.

How to determine monitor diagonal 

Often the user does not know what the diagonal of his equipment is. There are ways that allow you to determine this parameter. Let's look at them. 

• We use available materials. The simplest method is to use a ruler and a calculator. Instead of a ruler, you can use a meter, tape measure, or other measuring device you have. To measure, place a ruler on opposite corners of the monitor. Divide the resulting number by 2.54. That is, if you get 81.28 cm, this is a 32” diagonal. It is the monitor that needs to be measured; the black border around the perimeter is not taken into account. 

ATTENTION. Be careful when taking measurements so as not to damage the monitor or scratch it. 

• We will use special programs. You can determine the parameter you are interested in using the capabilities of diagnostic programs. These are AIDA64, SiSoft, Sandra. In the program, go to the “Displays” tab or similar, depending on the program. The line “Monitor” should be displayed there. Opposite it is the diagonal parameter.

• You can take advantage of online programs. To do this, you just need to indicate the model of your equipment. 
• Documentation. The information you are interested in can be found on the packaging of your equipment, if it is still available.  
• Sticker on the body. This information may also be present on the equipment itself, on the back side. 

These are the simplest and most accurate ways to determine the diagonal of a monitor. There are others, but more complex and confusing. If you are only interested in the diagonal, there is no need to bother.
