How to remove dead pixels on a monitor

A “dead pixel” on a laptop looks like a small dot on the screen that stays in the same place all the time and can irritate even the calmest user. Whether you're watching a movie, working, or playing video games, she constantly attracts attention and drives you crazy.

The problem is that this phenomenon can appear even on a new TV or monitor, since according to standards a certain number of dead pixels (sometimes their number can reach six or even ten) is not considered a defect, which means that the equipment cannot be returned or repaired under warranty . Fortunately, there are ways to cure the device yourself, without the help of specialists.

Program for identifying dead pixels

There are many online services that allow you to check your screen for free for this problem and then fix it. These include the sites monteon.ru and tft.vanity.dk. In addition, you can use special programs, for example:

• IsMyLcdOk;
• Dead Pixel Tester;
• UDPixel;
• AIDA64.

All of them are also free, install quickly and take up virtually no space on your computer.

Basically, they are a collection of images filled with one color. A dead pixel may appear on any of them. In addition, many of them can be used to test other screen qualities.

So, the problem has been identified, what to do next? There are also programs not only to determine it, but also to eliminate it. There are many of them, you just need to enter the appropriate search query. For example, let’s take the “BadCrystal” program.

After downloading and installing, launch it and follow the path “Computer”—”launch”. A motley window with rapidly changing colors will appear, which must be moved to the location of the pixel and wait about half an hour. If the problem persists, increase the speed by clicking “Speed ​​Com” and leave for another 60 minutes. If this does not help get rid of the problem, increase the speed again and leave for at least half a day.

Other programs operate on roughly the same principle. As a rule, this sequence of actions is sufficient, but there are always exceptions.

How else can you remove dead pixels?

There is also a mechanical way to combat the defect, the so-called “massage”. It brings different results, for some it helps to get rid of the dot on the screen forever, for some it appears again after 1-2 years, but disappears after repeating the procedure for about the same time, for others this period takes a couple of months or even weeks, but for some this method is useless. It all depends on the reasons for the appearance of dead pixels, but we will talk about this a little later, but for now we will present to you the sequence of actions for performing the “massage”:

• turn off the monitor, having previously noted the location of the point;
• take a cotton swab or pencil with a soft eraser at the end;
• press the cotton tip or eraser to the marked area;
• make massaging circular movements, gently and without strong pressure;
• continue the “massage” for about two to three minutes;
• turn on the monitor and if there is no result, repeat everything from the beginning.

ATTENTION! Do not use your fingers, or hard or even sharp objects for this!

We also warn you that this method can only work with single dots, and not with groups of them, otherwise the pixel spot may grow.

Why do dead pixels appear?

Each of them consists of three parts - subpixels, which have their own color, blue, red or green. Depending on the command of the transistor, each of them is supplied with the amount of electricity that is necessary to impart a certain degree of brightness, due to which one or another shade is obtained.

If a problem occurs in the operation of the transistor, a pixel may burn out and either go out, which forms black dots on the screen, or stop holding back light from the backlight, due to which white dots appear.

ATTENTION! If there are black or white dots on your screen, then you will not be able to resolve this problem yourself, since the transistor itself must be repaired or replaced, so in this case, contact a specialist.

If any of the subpixels fails, the dot is painted a certain color. The methods described above will help you solve this problem. The fact is that such subpixels (they are called “stuck”), for one reason or another, can “move away” from the power source, which is why they stop functioning, remaining only at one brightness level.
