How to reset your monitor settings
It happens that due to an error in the system, or careless assignment of parameters in the settings, or the activity of a virus, the monitor settings or even the display of pictures on the screen are reset, so much so that working on the computer becomes very difficult or even impossible.

Standard factory settings - what are they?
Settings failure manifests itself in different ways: familiar objects may become either too large or too small, the color palette will change, or the brightness will be reset. The cause of the problem can be not only a change in the settings itself, but also simply incorrect operation of the video card.
As a rule, the factory settings of the monitor are reduced to the average parameters of all its characteristics. For example, if screen brightness levels are defined on a scale from 0 to 100, then the default would be 50. However, if any special features have on/off settings, then they will most likely be turned on. So, on some LCD TVs or DVD players, subtitles are automatically turned on (if they are present in the video you are watching).
How to reset your monitor
To completely “roll back” the monitor settings, you will need to perform several steps in order.
- Log in as an administrator to avoid problems editing the system state.
- Select the “Start” menu, then click “Control Panel”, and then select “Device Manager”. In some versions of Windows, to get to this menu you need to select the “Hardware and Sound” item, and only then you will be able to open the manager.
- Having opened the list related to video cards (video adapters), check the list for the device that is currently installed in the computer system unit. If it is not there, or there are exclamation or question marks next to the name, then you need to update the device drivers by downloading them from the manufacturer’s official website. If such problems are not observed, then you can move on.
- In the empty space of the desktop, you need to right-click and select “Screen Resolution”. After that, in the window that opens, click on “Advanced options”.
- A menu will appear where you need to go to the “Diagnostics” tab and click the “Change parameters” button. If this button is not available, that is, the device driver does not allow diagnostics, then you need to return to the first tab and select one of the modes manually from the list, calling it up with the appropriate item.
- The picture settings will change to the other profile and the data will be reset. You can roll back changes if the result does not suit the user - for this, after switching to a new style, the question arises about saving the changes.
REFERENCE: some users on the forums suggest resetting the monitor settings via the BIOS menu. This cannot be done in any system, and it is not worth trying.
How to reset a laptop
If the laptop runs on a Windows system, then you can reset the settings using the following algorithm:
- When the system boots, before the text appears on the black screen, you need to press the F8 key.
- A menu will open where you need to select “Start the system in safe mode” using the arrow keys and Enter. In some situations, this may require administrator rights.
- On the desktop you will need to select “My Computer” and in the left pane click “Device Manager”.
- In the new menu, find the “Video adapters” drop-down list, select the one that is used (as a rule, there is only one video adapter), right-click on it and select “Disable”. The question will arise about removing drivers, in most cases you need to answer “No”.
- Shut down the system, and then start the computer again in normal mode.
- Now the system will automatically find the video adapter device and the drivers installed on it, and the settings will be reset.
