What is CISS in MFP
Many printer users have not even heard of such a necessary thing as CISS. But with its help you can easily solve the problem of filling ink into the cartridge. Now more about this.

CISS - continuous ink supply system
The ink supply system is a very convenient tool in printers. It allows you to immediately refill ink cartridges as soon as they run out. Since the inkjet cartridge is constantly working and receiving ink, it needs to be constantly recharged.
What is CISS
CISS stands for continuous ink supply system for an inkjet printer. The action works like this: ink is supplied from the reservoirs to the print head. Reservoirs (there are several of them, because each reservoir is designed for a separate color) with ink are connected to a flexible silicone cable made of tubes, a cartridge (instead, the analogue can be a small container or capsule).
IMPORTANT! The entire system is designed to maintain a constant pressure of the ink set. This is an important condition, since the performance of the head depends on it.
There are 2 holes at the top of the tank. One is for filling ink, the other is for air and vacuum compensation. Basically, during operation, it is closed with an air filter to prevent dust from clogging the print head nozzle.
The ink supply system is used to reduce the cost of printing. If you stick to a certain print level and don’t allow it to drop below the set level, you can print color photographs in bulk! And the cost of printing will decrease several times.
CISS connection
The installation of a continuous feed system should be entrusted to experienced computer scientists or programmers. Firstly, they have experience, and secondly, this is what users who have tried it themselves (but probably unsuccessfully!) think so.
In general, the buyer, before installing a CISS on an MFP or printer, must understand the responsibility of the sellers and the person who will directly carry out the installation. If something breaks, they will have to be held responsible and reimburse the costs. It is important to discuss this in advance.
When there is no way out and the user wants to install the system on his own, then we can only wish him patience. It’s good, of course, to collect according to instructions or recommendations from the Internet.
It's actually easy to connect. You just need to connect the containers with the cartridges, and fill the cartridges with paint. To allow air to escape, the bypass valve must be opened..
Attention! Do not allow air to enter the print head. This needs to be monitored closely. And if this happens, then only a service center will help.
Not all modern models and types of printers support CISS. They must have certain characteristics. For example, It is recommended to buy printers without a sponge inside and with a separate PG. A good option would be to purchase a printer from brands such as: Canon, Epson, Brother and DesignJet.
Pros and cons of CISS
Like any device, CISS has pros and cons. It's probably better to look at the pros first.
Advantages
- Quick installation.
- Automatic paint replenishment.
- Reducing the cost of printing by 60 times! In addition, there are no restrictions on the period of use; it can boast hundreds of prints.
- High printing security.
- Possibility of printing in large volume.
- Possibility of using any ink.
- Safe for the environment as it reduces clogging from broken printers or cartridges.
Flaws
The disadvantages include the following factors.
- Incorrect placement of the ink tank level.
- Lack of air in the cartridge and hose (a must!).
- Some companies may refuse to guarantee the conversion of the printer or its materials.
- Care is required when moving the printer.
- A common malfunction problem is head breakage.
- Sometimes the nozzle may become clogged.
As you can see, the disadvantages of the system fall into the category of possible, but the real advantages are felt by everyone who installed the device.
It is definitely recommended to purchase CISS, because you can save money and time!
